First trip of 2009 - Lago di Como

,

Sometimes when I get bored I take the scooter and go around. Usually I go in the morning of summer weekends but today I needed it in the afternoon. One of my classical trips is crossing randomly the area between Milano and the mountains, called Brianza, then go to the lake Como and either go around it (but it takes a lot of time) or going to the city of Como and then ride to the city of Lecco, passing through Bellagio, or the same in the opposite direction. Today I went to Lecco first.

Actually I have to ride across a lot of ugly places to get there. Anyway yes, it is good to have some place to go to.

Wow. So beautiful. And it looks so...Scandinavian too. p

Looks very beautiful smile I agree, it does look a bit scandinavian! Reminds me of Norwegian fjords, and those little red-painted wooden house you see scattered around Sweden. Is it getting hot in Italy now? Looks like summer already!

Kirsten, summer is when you see leaves on the trees smile
Now the landscape is mostly brown. In summer it is dark green.

It looks "scandinavian" because this lake was created by a glacier during the ice age. The main difference is here there are MANY more people.

Gorgeous place and the view that house has is pretty amazing I bet happy I think my favorite is the one of the water with the mountains in the distance, that would be a good one to put on a tourist type of brochure up

There are many houses on the sides of the lake, in little towns. There is a problem then, there is only one narrow street that crosses these towns. I am worried to go there riding the scooter, I guess it is difficult by car. But, believe or not, locals drive buses and big trucks over there and quite fast also.

Yes, it could have been a tourist place. But historically it grew around some industries (iron, clothes) and trade with north Europe, especially Switzerland that is right behind those mountains. So there are some hotels and tourists but it is not the main activity around there.

It is getting warmer every day but real "summer" here begins around the end of April and May. March is still very unstable, can be hot one day and also extremely cold the next day. Some trees have flowers already but most are still growing them.

Besides, the closer to the mountains and the colder it gets. In Milano city it is about 3-4 degrees warmer.

such beautiful sceneries that i never had a chance to see. i never saw lakes, mountains before... well. actually maybe i saw several time when i was too young to notice them.

the lake is so big and the water is clean, isnt it?

Lorenzo CelsiLorenzoCelsi Tuesday, April 7, 2009 5:21:13 PM

It was some centuries ago. Now there are too many people living on the sides of the lake so the water isn't clean any more. There are smaller lakes on the mountains that are very clear and very cold.
