I guess when a site lacks a purpose or it's purpose has run out for most people (social networking can only last so long I suppose) what is left?

About the "social" thing.
Internet was already "social", being a net to connect people's computers. Today the word "social" comes from the idea that Internet is about the masses and people are too stupid to do anything else but some very basic functions and everybody does the same like lemmings. "Social" means "automated" and "simplified". Even blogging has become too demanding.
