Hard drive pt 2

I just had an idea. Which is probably not a good one, but hopefully someone could put me right. Anyway, I notice that on my computer I can set aside an area of the Hard-Disk for extra RAM. Is this equally as effective as normal RAM? And if so, can I install a new Hard disk for use entirely as the extra RAM? That sounds really stupid, now I come to think of it.

Anonymous writes: RAM is a whole lot faster than the hard drive, and when you run out of RAM it switches to the hard drive anyway (called virtual memory). When this happens, the hard drive grinds away, your entire machine slows down and starts crunching to do real simple tasks like switching between one window and the other. This is your computer swapping RAM for hard drive space and is usually a sign that you need more RAM.

Ah, so I was right with the "that sounds really stupid" bit. Thanks.
