For the longest time I've been searching a
ginkgo tree only to fine one right in the most unexpected place of all.
In this region which I call "god forsaken country" rare asian trees like the ginkgo are nigh impossible to find. Extrange as it is, I would say that in average, every street in this lawless city has an
eucalyptus. Useless trees in this part of the world and that only contaminates the city with all those leaves floating around.
Ok, back to the ginkgo. I want a ginkgo to have as a bonsai tree. I have the pleassure to live in an apartment that is about 90 square meters. The bad thing about that is that almost half of it is in a very odd distribution. I have a hallway. I don't need a hallway, so, that's about 7 or 8 square meters wasted.
So, I wish to have a garden. The closest thing to a garden is one of the ever present eucalyptus with a huge branch coming closer and closer to my bedroom window. Currently I have to move small branches that are practically over the window already, when I want to open it.
If I can't have a proper garden, why not a bonsai garden. Sadly the only bonsai tree of a ginkgo I found at a bonsai store is about $100 usd. So, buying a ginkgo bonsai tree is not an option.
Somewhere on the internet talk about how to grow a bonsai tree out of a tree branch. Forgot the url, but a quick google search could provide light in that matter. And then began my frantic search for the rare ginkgo tree.
My most logical idea of where to find such a thing was in the residential zones of chinese and japanese people of the city. But no luck, not even a single sakura tree was found, at first glance. Probably some could have those trees on inside gardens, but I'm not going to ask door to door for tree branches. I might do, if I wanted to freak people.
-Excume fair lady/gentlman, I was wondering if you currently have a garden with a reasonable amount of non native trees.
-If you do so, could you be so kind as to provide several branhes suitable for the creation of bonsai.
The most common answer would be:
But I found a ginkgo tree, It's small but it has several good branches. And where did I find this ancient tree. In the most unexpected place of all. In the garden besides the main gate of my so called faculty, of all places.
I've been coming this place for almost too many years now, and until now I notice the damn tree. Sure it's leaves are different enought to the other trees but the thing is that almost never I enter throught the main gate. Today I had to do so because the side entry, which I always use to enter and exit becuase it's closer to the place I park my car. And there it was, all with a sign that says something like: Gingko (sic) tree planted to celebrate some random event that does not have a relation to me because I only want a branch of the tree.
Now, because I don't want to be seen as stranger that I'm already seen, I must wait my time to cut a brach of the tree because is not easily reachable and almost always is surrounded by pot smoking assholes.
But I finally found that tree. One less white whale in my list.
Yay! I'm happy.
