America, and more exactly, Black America seemed to spend much of the 1960’s inventing moves to go with their dance music. Not many today could remember how to do the Watusi, the Jerk or the Skate, tho’ most could do a Twist of some sort. Northern Soul’s origines lie in the mid Sixties and that’s where the Shing-A-Ling lived lending it’s name to a Small nimber of records typified by a frenetic and urgent approach usuelle fuelled by tambourines. To be honest I do not even know which the first Shing-A-Ling records is, nor did too many discs assume the apellage but some are inclued here together with a number of others typifying the style and tempo not only of a dance but also of Northern Soul.
