Ingfried Hoffmann Plays Jazz For Secret Agents
Sunday, February 10, 2008 12:55:43 AM
Ingfried Hoffmann, born 1935, may be best known in his home country of Germany for his successful film and TV music. But his roots are in jazz. ln the 1960s, he had the reputation of being Europe's best Hammond B-3 organist, a talent that has occasionally overshadowed his equal skill as a pianist, arranger and composer. As a member of Klaus Doldinger's famed quartet, Hoffmann won several polls as Germany's best jazz organist and pianist. He also recorded solo albums under his own name and a highly collectable soul album under the alias of Memphis Black. When, in the mid-1960s, Hoffmann and his producer Siegfried E. Loch decided to record 'From Then With Love', an album sugggested by the James Bond films, the Bond craze was at its height, following the worldwide success of 'Thunderball'. Inspired by the first four Bond films, and the novels of Ian Fleming, Hoffmann not only laid down fantastic interpretations of Bond themes, but also shone with compositions of his own dedicated to the famous super spy. The album now receives its first reissue here, with four related bonus tracks from other Ingfried Hoffmann sessions.
