Miss Justice, HII :D long time no see
Well, as in many other languages, in romanian we use many ways to say "hello". We usually say "salut", or "buna", or "noroc"
Buna=good, it comes from "good day", noroc=luck and is too often used before drinking a glass of...(alcohol :D )

About some guys here frustrated (i suppose) russian is not used more than it is --> All peoples native speakers of some language of very large circulation like: english, spanish, russian very hardly hear other tongue than their own, and very hardly accept to learn any tongue different from their own

The best Mademoiselle Justice p:

MIRjustise 31. August 2009, 18:16

SALUT Sir Steven!!!oh..really long time no see :worried: ...
:D Thanks for commentin'! And may I ask u? Just..I've never heard romanian language...so Can u translate "THANK YOU" ???

ste-ven 2. September 2009, 21:46

romanian sounds like a combination of italian with russian
:eyes: :eyes: ...yeah
or something between the latin american spanish and portuguese
Use the french "merci" for "thank you", it is the short, usual, familiar form here
The true, long form is "multumesc" which derives from "mult" = "much".
Anyway, it's a latin tongue, very conservative, with long words, who has kept the most the old, difficult latin grammar.
It has lots of different sounds, and lots of vowels.
See an example: the capital of R.Moldova is Kishinev in russian and Chisinau in romanian (official tongue there)
An inhabitant of the town is a "chisinauean"....you won't know how "auea" is pronounced...all vowels are pronounced, and that is difficult even for me

ste-ven 10. October 2009, 03:20

to here some romanian , these are melodies performed in the 1970
the style is typical for those years, but the pronunciation is great
here
here
the second is striking, in romanian, anyway, but the first is translated into english

MIRjustise 29. November 2009, 16:30

I think Homer: Doh! ....there is the same meaning. We also use "salam"...

RedFreya 29. November 2009, 20:16

As I`m English my greeting is obviously "Hello", because it probably comes from the Old English "hál béo þu"("Hale be thou", or "whole be thou", meaning a wish for good health) and ultimately the Old English " hǽlan " to heal, cure, greet, salute. Sorry for the History lesson  p:

MIRjustise 30. November 2009, 03:45
