Please let me know what you think. This is my first round model, I also have a small game box model with 7 different skins you can only get at the SnarkPit.
Well I went out and got a 20 man CS:S Server.. titled Team.GO I plan to use this server to host my maps, as well as some of the basics. As soon as the provider has it set up and ready, I will update this with an IP address. I hope you come by and hang out on the server.
The lights file, usually with a .rad extension, must be placed in your game directory for Vrad to find it. It is a plain text file with one rule per line. This file maybe missing in some games, like HL2DM. if it is, copy it and paste it where it should be in that games dir. You may have to edit that file to point it to the new games directories for proper linking.
Check to see if you have any detail_brushes, remove them, and try to recompile.. if it works then add your detail_brushes. You may add one at a time to see which one is causing the problem. Also check for leaks.. leaks in the map can cause vrad headaches.
Too many lights in an area can also cause vrad some headaches. Make sure you need than many lights in an area, if you dont then delete some and try again.
In windows do a search for .rad to make sure each game you have installed and are mapping for has the .rad file.
There should be a .rad file in each game dir.
It all breaks down that there are many ways vrad can break.. I would suggest trying the tools listed above. You can also try to go back and relink your vrad tool in the SDK. There seems to be lots of chatter and ways to fix it on-line.. no one has the same problem, so a little trial and error on your part will be the only way to fix it.
The game released a new video today.. in the background they have this African Sombo, with what sounds like Arabic Lyrics. With some Investagation I found the English Translation.. First the song, then the lyrics.. follow along if you like in English and see how powerful this song really is.
Or as just the song on youtube.. I think it fits the video in Farcry trailer very well.. War is Hell.

I have taken the hobby of level mapping back up. I have not mapped in a very long time, and the tools have improved so much, I am a little daunted by all the new options. But I am slowly relearning. I have posted some images of a current project I am doing in the photo section.. please go take a gander and let me know your thoughts.
I rejoined a community I was once part of that gives mappers advice and inspiration. Check them out at: http://www.thesnarkpit.net
Well thats what I am up to these days.. thanks for stopping by, and keep your eyes out here for my maps to download, and images to see how they are coming along.
Have you ever reinstalled windows, and for some reason you get the dual boot screen? Or maybe you had Widows and Linux installed and removed one, and have remove one of the Operating Systems but still get the dual boot screen. Well here is a safe and easy way to remove the unwanted OP system from the boot screen.
Click start>run Type in "msconfig" without paranthesis in the "open" box.
Click the boot.ini tab. You will see a box that says "check all boot paths". Click it. Exit msconfig. The next time you reboot, the selection screen (boot menu) won't be there.
What you just did-since you deleted the 2nd OS, when windows checks the paths, it will delete the one with the missing OS>no more menu
I have been looking online at different miniatures and the quality of the pictures taken. Some people have awesome shots and then there are many more like mine in the gallery.. blurry and hard to see any detail. Well I thought about building a miniature photo studio for these little models I have.
It would have a light below with a piece of plexi glass spray painted white to defuse the light coming up, two lights one on the right and one on the left. I would build a box sorta, with the top and front left off, and on each side I would add a groove slot to slide in different backdrops, the standard blue white, or other backdrops that would look good, and give the best detail for the model. I would also figure where the best placement for the camera is, and add a bolt though the bottom of the floor to attach to the camera to hold it in place while shooting. I may also try to put a small lazy Susan where the miniature will sit, with a dial off to one side, so I can turn the miniature once placed and get shots from all sides.. or if the camera I am using has movie mode, I can place the miniature and spin it slowly to give a 360 view with out my fingers being in the shot.
I will try to work up some plans and add them to this entry later.. as well as pictures of what I come up with.
If you have any ideas, or suggestions on this project.. please add a comment and let me know. Thanks!
Well, Future Floor wax does indeed make your floors look bright, but it can also be used to thin paints to make great washes for your miniature painting.
Just mix about 25% Future with 75% distilled water (e.g, 1 oz Future, 3 oz water). Use it to thin your paints, and it helps a lot for washes. It works great! My Buddy D. Anthony taught me this trick, and I sure am glad he did.
Maybe I can get him to send me his Tweening paint technique.. his miniatures always look like a million bucks... and I know its because of his Tweening technique, well that and lots of natural skill. So keep an eye out for that coming soon!
But dont just take my word for it.. here is a master painter at Games Workshop!
Have you ever painted an army of plastic miniatures, and after some time gotten better at painting and looked at them old mini's and go man they suck? Then you ask yourself how do I get paint off plastic Miniatures without harming the miniature it's self?
BRAKE FLUID!
Yep thats right Brake Fluid. You will need to soak your plastic miniatures in the fluid so a mason jar or some sorta glass container that you can put a top on and seal up as well as see though will be needed. Its simple put the brake fluid in the jar, add your miniatures and seal up.. let sit in the fluid for 30 minuets to an hour then check on them swish them around in the jar to help remove the paint for a couple seconds and then let sit another 30 min. to an hour. The fluid should be a nice dark mixture from the painting bleeding off your miniatures. Depending on the thickness of the paint, you may have to let some miniatures sit over night. Make sure to fish the miniatures out of the brake fluid with a tool of some kind, just for your safety, rinse the miniature under warm water scrubbing with a Soft paint brush. If there are still some areas with stubborn paint, either let sit for a little longer in the brake fluid or add some to the bush and continue to scrub.. or use a tooth pick to chip that paint off. Make sure to rinse the miniature again, and let dry on a paper towel.
Brake Fluid can remove some glue as well.. just as a warning.. just re-glue back together.. and your miniature is ready to be re-painted!
Hope this has helped some of you miniature painters out there.. its not a new trick, but its a good one.
