So I drove to PAX. 2000+ miles both ways, lots of road construction all over the country. I have some advice for people who travel though Mesquite NV. Stay at the Virgin River Hotel, its 24.99 and not bad.. but don't eat at there restaurants... awful food. Make sure to stop in Beaver UT and get a "I LOVE BEAVER" hat or shirt.. lol. Oh and if you go up though Idaho Falls, the Motel 6 there is really nice. Montana will suck the life out of you with its wonderful views and sharp mountain turns.. and no cell phone service. But it has great views as I mentioned and its forest the whole way from I15 on I90 into Seattle... the one other thing is you pass up all the road construction though Boise and Yakima.
But what about PAX? This year was not as much fun for me as 2009. The Vendors were pretty stingy with the loot. Too many hoops and hurdles to go though to get a free shirt or whatever. I don't know why, hell they are giving away advertising, if I wear your game on my body in some form I am telling everyone who sees me that this game rocks buy it.. so why they act all prudish and want to put their fan base though such bullshit, I don't know.
BYOC is a great thing to get just for the ease of access and the place to chill after the busy day of exploring the exhibit hall. But BYOC its self is rather lame... the free play side has access to beta games and more contest and lan events. its kinda sad that we pay to be there and we cant compete with the free play area. Besides the data stream was laggy as all hell and just plain crappy this year. Internet access has been better in the past. I mean really I had to go to the free play area to try BF3. Lame. I always feel a little let down by BYOC, but again I cant complain really, it is a great place to chill and get away from the crowds.
I did get the one thing I was after though, beta to CS-GO. Stood in line for about an hour, and totally worth it. Played on an Xbox and got pwned, I am not a console gamer, good thing this is also a PC game or I would have to play on my 360 and that may suck for me.. lol. Oh and I also got to play and into the beta of Wildstar, that game is awesome! Got some RIFT loot codes for titles and so forth, I also won a set of Headphones at one booth, and won a new mouse and keyboard too by smashing my old. I had lots of fun, but felt I missed so much. Next year I will try to have a plan to get done what I want, and ditch people if need be to get er done. Who knows if I can get my game out there, maybe I can be a booth selling my stuff to the masses. Ahh who knows.
All in all it was a Great Trip.
