There are two types of friend,internet,and real time.You cannot call internet friends virtual,because they DO exist,and are real people.You cannot call internet friends REAL friends,because for the most part ,you have never met,therefore they have not had a real test of friendship put upon them,but they are people you like,and get along with,that is the best you can say about internet friends i feel.
Real time friends are very different,they are in your face sort of speak,with you,through good and bad times.A real friend,has to be tested,will a friend listen to you,ask advice,help you,be their for you in any situation,this is what you must ask yourself,sometimes friends are never tested to that degree,so we do not really know if they are true friends.A true friend is someone that you can confide in with any thoughts you have,and will not divulge your thoughts to anyone,you have to ask yourself,,would i die for my friend,most would say yes,but would you if the situation arose?i doubt many would.we can only have friends to hang around with ,people we are fond of,,until the true test comes along,it may never happen that you have a true friend,so just enjoy the people you know as the word friends.

i think we have to take people for what they are,,diverse ,,,then we will not be surprised or upset when they turn out not as we thought.
