With the latest weekly build and all the attention being put towards the fraud protection feature, my disappointment only grows. The last few versions of Opera have been going in a direction that no longer appeals to me.
As of now. With the exception of one more update to the MyPA skin, I am abandoning all Opera related projects and campaigns. The last 4 years have been great and I've met many nice people here along the way.
Opera just isn't for everyone. Nothing is really. Thanks to everyone here. I'll keep in touch from time to time

Edit: I didnt think people would actually read this. Originally I was typing out loud

opera v9, M2

At long last someone has figured out how to implement MAPI support for Opera's M2.
Hakre has put a great deal of work into a solution. With a simple installation of a 200 KB file, its now possible to have a proper "Send To > Opera Mail" for attaching files.
The installer is is small in file size and after launch detects your Opera's installation folder. You also have the option to name your Send To shortcut to anything you like! Setup was easy and detailed instructions can be found on Hakre's blog. The send to shortcut is created by the installer and comes complete with it's own mail icon. It doesn't get any easier.
Edit: Please see
this link for an update.

Well, I managed to finish my latest Opera skin, named "MyPA".
It was a skin I originally made for
PowerArchiver. Although Opera's skin engine is not very sophisticated, I was able to reproduce the scroll bars and buttons almost identically.

Visual Task Tips is a
free lightweight shell enhancement utility. It provides thumbnail preview image for each task in the Windows Taskbar, like in the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista.
I installed this app and have to say it is excellent! Only 87 kb download and only a single DLL file is installed. Post install you can choose to start Visual Task Tips every time Windows starts. This app is great if you do multitasking and have numerous applications running. For example I was working with 3 text files and switching back and forth was a pleasure since I could see which window I needed.

Yahoo widgets? Well the web site is impressive anyway. I have not tried Yahoo's widgets as of yet, but plan to soon and write a review. But for those of you interested you can check it out here:

Here is a free application to store encrypted notes. Its small, only 300 KB. I found the program very easy to use. You can drag and drop text files onto it and they are automatically encrypted. What could be easier?
Steganos LockNote will change the way you work with confidential notes. Application and document in one: the mechanism to encrypt and decrypt a note is part of it. Secure, simple, independent. No installation required.
Features:- MD5 checksum
- Read GPL licence
- Visit LockNote IRC server
- (IRC client required)
- Feedback

Here is a great find! Desktask which is now in the RC stage seems to be a great freeware desktop widget. It displays Calendar and Task items from MS Outlook.
It dosent use much system resources and is easy to work with. The download size is only 446 Kb. There is also a
forum for discussing the application.
Go to the download page ~
Notes: Just a tip. I found dragging Desktask around the screen easier when I dragged it by the Calendar icon.
OS: NT / 2K / XP
MS Outlook versions: 2000 / XP / 2003

I caught this
article on CNN's web site. Some good information there about a worm that has been spreading since Jan 16 of this year. The worm is set to release its payload on Feb 3.
While Opera's mail client is the safest and most secure program I know of, I wanted to remind new users that security begins with the user. Opera or its mail client will not execute or run attachments in email messages. However, if you elect to open and run an attachment you put yourself at high risk.
Some common sense and caution goes along way!
Never open any attachments from senders you dont know. Even if Opera
is the most secure browser out there. Your self education and Opera together will help prevent such disaster as the potential one mentioned

freeware, windows, search
For WindowsI came across a great little freeware program.
Colibri. This is a freeware application still under development, but already delivers top notch functionality. Colibri indexes all your start menu shortcuts, control panel applets, desktop items and registered executables.
When ever you want to find & launch a program, hit the hot key and type a few letters. Colibri does the rest. It will list matching "find as you type" results. Its small, fast and free!

I just posted some
filters on the forum. They can filter messages that contain: software versions, http & FTP links to executables & zips, ed2k and Torrent.
You have to love the power Opera's mail client offers!

Both the regular skin and native version have been released to the Opera community. Look for them to appear on the
new skins page shortly.

I've just finished the native version of the skin. Assuming there are no last minute changes I expect to release it along with the non-native version in a day or two.
Of all
my skins this one is by far the most space saving skin yet. I think people will appreciate the screen real estate.

I have been working on a skin as a user request. I am happy to announce that it is near complete and should be made available sometime this coming week.
What is it? I think I will name it "MS Office 2003". The skin closely follows the Office theme of colors, toolbars and icons. I have paid extra attention to making Opera's mail client look exactly like Outlook 2003. Or as close as I can get it.
Here is a small taste of things to come. Still a long to-do list. But will be worth it in the end I think.
Thanks to rholje for providing the inspiration and ideas! He has been a great help and participated in its design.
