Dance of Autumn Leaves

Dance of Autumn Leaves

Carefully crafted the third season
of deciduous trees and leaves
gently swaying and basking in
sunlight amidst a back drop blue sky

the autumnal equinox staves off the winter solstice
taking joy in all the colorful hues
of browns and golds, deep reds and ambers
as it waves goodbye to Summers bliss

and now awaits the first leaf - must fall
and to the world - Autumn, Autumn, Autumn it must call

feel the breeze whip around the bark
Autumn winds crisp and stark

and so the leaves dance and play
to the winds song that has travelled afar
beyond the north as we know it
to revel in this beautious season

though at first glance one sees the season
as one dying as it lays and dry upon the ground
and we see not, we feel not the life that might be emerging
only seeing the browns and golds, deep reds and ambers

and now awaits the first leaf - must fall
and to the world - Autumn, Autumn, Autumn it must call

feel the breeze whip around the bark
Autumn winds crisp and stark

strange it seems, this change of season
that bursts into colors beyond our senses
silhouettes and shades that cast it's shadows
sprinkled beween stark limbs soon to be naked

unremembered sleep of Autumn wrestling with
the nearing of winters cry - yet but a snap
of time that passes this way all to quickly
artfully and splendidly crafted color

and now awaits the first leaf - must fall
and to the world - Autumn, Autumn, Autumn it must call

feel the breeze whip around the bark
Autumn winds crisp and stark

and so this dance of Autumn soon must end all but too quickly
as autumn's quilt lies silent on the ground beneath
the great trees, the teller of time
and bid the north winds song of frolic goodbye.....

Of Gentler Times

Of Gentler Times

the dreadful mood
settled by the peaceful sunset
as soft lappings
reached the shore

as the waters edge
smoothes and strokes
the sandy banks
as if to pacify

as autumns rain beckons
a change of season
a change of tide
to put at last to rest

amiable and tender
the sunset kisses the
last remains of the horizon
as the thoughts of day

the too are put to rest
and cradled within the
mind till mornings light
is able to sort the fray

I Wake...........

I wake.......

I wake
and breath comes with mornings light
the doves coo in the trees

I wake
and breath comes with mornings light
as cool is felt in Autumns breeze

I wake
and breath comes with mornings Light
and life has come to me

I wake
and breath comes with mornings light
of grandeur and possibility

I wake
and breath comes with mornings light
as lifes pulse quickens my heart

I wake
and breath comes with mornings light
for the joy felt at days start

A Maple Autumn

A Maple Autumn

never under-estimate foilage of rich color
the deep reds and purples
nor the oranges that radiate from
deciduous trees in Autumn

joy of seasons change as trees
put on a beautiful display so
cool and clear are the days that
are made even more spectacular

when brilliantly set against a
blue skyas the claret ash with
glossy green leaves in spring
turn to deep claret in Autumns wake

vivid autumn color puts warmth into
our days and give tranquil thought
as leaves fall in Winter and show
your grand structural form

you trunk and branches that said
goodbye to the graceful leafy surround
shade me in in my summer, and
give me my sun in my winter

THE AUTUMN OF MY YEARS

THE AUTUMN OF MY YEARS

The tree bears fruit in Autumn
third the season between
summer and winter it falls

northern temperate zone at
the autumnal equinox,
of perfect moment

the harvest that favors life
where there are whispers in the wind
that called softly my name

and so co-ordinated the celestiele
of time at which the vernal point
brings the celestial equator

and though it must end
at winters solstice
I shall live while I may

in reality day is longer than night
and there by pure light I see
the golden falling leaves

and so the transition of change
that I may live so centered
and enjoy my blossoming fruit

for I cannot spend another moment
without another orange sherbet sunrise
nor an Autumn without trees

CICADA'S SONG

CICADA'S SONG - The Courtship of Summer

cicada's song that rings in the air
comes on the morning breeze
of summers breath thick in humidity

sounding like the word of "pharoah"
or the sizzling skillet of flighted meat
singing midday as another awaits the late afternoon shift

the female lured and flying nearer responds
to the male with a flick of her wings
and lured to the emitting sound

and when you sing all else is quiet as
vibrating rib plates in amplifying cavities
that which can be heard from half a mile away

so sing cicada sing, sing in competing throng
and secure a mate for thee
for you will sing for little less than 30 days

for summer's emergence tranparent wings
that filter violets light for
did you spy thousands of stovepipes there upon the ground

so fanciful and many are your names
Yellow Monday, Whisky Drinker, Double Drummer and Black Prince
the Cherry Nose, Red Eye and Brown Baker,

your song rises amongst the loudest in the word
adapted perfectly to the urbanized environment
is Australias emerald Green Grocer

but be aware the king of summers song
for Exerirus hunts and is ready with sting
numb from your demise stuck in a burrow

and there you rest on shelves of the catacomb
and be deposited there as mere food stock
as fodder for the wasp-grub that grow

and now summer moves as the leaves change their color
and Autumn in passing waves
and your secret isall that remains

now silent the defeaning drone
that once pulsed through the air
are the lifeless forms of summers reign
