GRANDMOTHER

, , , ...

GRANDMOTHER

the nuturer of children's children
when all we thought had been said and done

lovingly the mother of my mother cares
for the children left behind

the legacy of family from above
that shows the extra measure of love

and rivers of words should be written for them
for their courage and strength

the wisdom of age found in "Oma"
the gentle chiding voice of "opa"

the hand and hearts that guide and lend
a helping hand and though we weary them

the beauty and kindness of an ag-ed face
of wrinkled smiles that shine for me

I AM MY MOTHERS DAUGHTER

, ,

I AM MY MOTHERS DAUGHTER

Kind the soul that looks after friends
and keeper of their hearts

Years so tender full of grace has
learnt to dispense mercy well

Shaped is the life by what is taught
and learnt from thy mother's lap

How time has passed so quickly
that a quarter of century has marched

And you are your mother's daughter
and from her knee learnt well.

SILENT NIGHT SILENT FLIGHT

, , , ...

Dedicated to my younger sister who is a lover of all things owl
and has also kindly agreed to give editing my poems in readiness
to send to publishers.....

SILENT NIGHT SILENT FLIGHT

muffled sound as the wise approaches its prey
the owl in silent wing-ed flight
is the nightly stealth hunter

screeching is the sound of scraping against the metal
or the rush of steam spewing forth out of an engine
is the Barn Owl of great depth of perception

and who is it that brightens the night
that breaks the silence of evenings darkness
and supertitious sounds echo from heights of tree

one hoot the omen of impending death
two success that responds soon after
three that brings the woman to our family

four disturbance that not all is well
five my feet will travel
six will tell guests are on the way

seven gives sign of mental stress
eight foretold of sudden death
nine good fortune will follow day

spy the treasures, steal and hoard them
and carry the message of the witches
and dance on the graves of the dead

by night they enter your houses
and gather your discarded finger nails
and of new born babies they are fed

the Barn Owls are the clairvoyants of the Devil
representation of blindness and desolation
and the owl too beautiful to come out in day

and with your claws my soul climbs into heaven
you will hear some people say and when I'm dead
for jealous all the other birds you would hear it say

Bubbles Without Troubles

, , ,

Dedicated to my grandhildren who brought a smile
grandma and poppy's face.

Bubbles Without Troubles

spherical liquid filled with air
floats joyously without a care

and giggles abound as larger the making
for the biggest bubbles aplenty
and froth the fantasy illusion of
pretty rainbows in glassen bowls are many

transparent the magic of the day
as my grandkids and I enjoy our stay

irrepressible emotion bursts out with glee
from the children playing under my family tree

so it is true my friend that magic is found in soap of liquid
that is pure gold to a small child so crystal and limpid

for everything is apparent now and life defined so clear
that spending time with the grandchildren is something I hold dear.

I ADMIRE

, , ,

I ADMIRE

I admire anyone that lives their word
that feeds their heart the truth
like Mother Theresa a woman
of her convictions

Or the love of mother's word to
a small child that encourages
and lifts the spirit with
gentle soft diction

The man I call my husband who's strength
is in his acceptance and awareness
to leave the negative things in the past
where they belong

Or the young man I now see before me
accomplished, ambitious to succeed
where careful insight of others
make him strong

The daughter that rises above me
independant and full of courage
the one whose friends seek her out
to hear wisdom when they have lost their way

Or the grandson whose loving care
of others, prompts action for others
to follow and a strong mind that in this
not even his parents can sway

A Night with Roy Orbinson

A Night with Roy Orbinson

I havn't died - had I,
I question as I look around the room:
Everyone with grey hair,
aged wrinkled like a prune?

All challtering away,
Excited for the the show to start
like there is no tomorrow,
I soon realise that many are just young at heart.

Hubby gone to get us drinks
Frowns my choice of shiraz - dear Red
Bad bloody luck mate
you will have to drive I said.

We worked hard all day you and I
Cleaning up all the soot
you think your back aches
what about my darn foot!

He's been gone an awful while
as he waits patiently in line
I'm sure in that time
I could have pressed me own wine.

I've been waiting, waiting over youuuuu
the shows begun to play
I wish I hadn't had that fight with you
but we'll make up by the end of day.

Penny Arcade, and the music Plays
Plays all the time
I'm glad you didn't complain about
spending your last dime.

The couple next to us Sweet as can be
Tell me their from Macedonia
I could have lied and
said I was from Estonia.

Instead we shared family stories
of our kids and family history
of things we might lament
and things we wish would be.

Time has gone by so quick
the show has come an to end
there is no doubt for hubby and I
we will visit here once again.

Christmas-Our House

, , , ...

Christmas-Our House

Christmas day the summer reigned
of red and gold the trimming:
the joy for some is mildly feigned
that keeps the wallet slimming.

So bah! the humbug that grumps around
The stockings are hung for all
as golden beetles on earth is ground
all hail the christmas ball.

Holly leaves and mistletoe
baked lamb and honeyed carrots
Minted peas and Mothers woe lament the families Chariots.

As one by one they finally arrive
with little ones in toe I thank the Lord were all alive
as presents are placed on show.

The lamb is carved the gravy poured
each seated in their place
as prayers are said from year in store
the eating now a race.

With Dinner done and pudding flamed
the kids they count their sixpence
Wer'e so glad that you all came and shared the joy since hence

Today's Inspiration

Today I wanted to be in Worship and fellowship and then planned to be with our grandchildren - but as life has it things never seem to go as planned. So I find myself around 6am at the local hospital tending to my husband's injury of the night before.

So wiping madly away with cloth wipes on the wheelchair and seats as if the germs are waiting to pounce all over me - I then decide I can sit and write - as inspiration hits - I find I'm now writing about...what else - hubby's injury...you willl find this piece of inspiration - under the heading "FAMILY" and under the title poem of "A Moments Glory"

I find I always carry around pen and paper now. And am patiently waiting for my daughter to return my journal of poetry I left at her place from our last luncheon

and the rest of the day? well I spent getting up this site and collating some of my work.
