Baseball

Mark's favorite sport - still ! One of the few things he misses about the USA is being
able to watch baseball games on TV. He didn't even mind when I drug him to an Atlanta Braves game a few times. (He's a San Francisco Giants fan) He tells his students that baseball is the only sport in heaven. (Genesis 1:1 ....."in the big inning.")

Christmas Parties !

Every year we have a Christmas party for our Chinese friends. This picture was taken at our last year's party. Of those fifteen friends, six have left Tianjin for either further study, marriage, or work. Our apartment is small, but that's ok....it's very cozy and no one seems to mind. Seems like we keep adding on new friends, but we still keep in touch with the old ones. This year we will host another party and have invited about fifteen of our newest friends. Like the old saying I learned as a child goes, "MAKE NEW FRIENDS BUT KEEP THE OLD, ONE IS SILVER AND THE OTHER GOLD !"

Craft Project

At our Fellowship someone asked for volunteers to do a blanket project for a Home for the Elderly here in Tianjin.
We volunteered to do two, and I thought of the brilliant idea of taking them to our weekly "English Corner" with our Chinese University friends. We took our school colleague, Holly, along and taught them to cut a fringe and tie knots all around these two blankets. They loved it and were glad to be a part of making someone's day !

You may have noticed the words on the chalkboard (yes, they still use chalk here in the university). This was the Thursday before Thanksgiving, and an English teacher had put some "food" words. Mark added his favorite foods to the list. We haven't had "sweet tea" in so long we forgot what it's like ! In fact we prefer "no ice" now...and sometimes just hot water.

Down memory lane

This was in our little kitchen in Madrid 24 years ago !!! Now all these guys, except little John, are married with kids.
(John, now 26, will be married in February 2007 to Bethany.) I guess it IS true that the older you get the more you reminisce. Ahhhhh. Life is good. And it gets better all the time.
