BUGS

PROGRAM

  • When cursor moves from some <iframe> to the interface element (for example, to some panel), "mouse leave" event for this <iframe> doesn't appear. (DSK-257518)

Can't find an example, the old one now doesn't have that element.
  • Sometimes Opera doesn't react on very long links when opening them from some other programs. (DSK-252925)

    Send this link:
    http://fpf.ru/sale.aspx?search=1&CatalogId=394&c_name=%D1%81%D1%83%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%BE&e_link_confiscat_typ=&e_link_region=&e_price_initial_from=&e_price_initial_to=&e_contacts=&size=50&search.x=26&search.y=12&search=%D0%98%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C
via QIP (IM-client) to another user, so it becomes clickable link in messages window. Now try to open this link from QIP clicking on it. Nothing happens (link doesn't open at all). Works perfect in Chrome.
Partially fixed in build 1622 - if Opera is not running, link is opened after clicking. But if Opera is already opened, clicking on link in QIP makes no result.
  • "Click to activate and use this control" issue. (DSK-251229)

I know about patent, but this is the worst thing in Opera for me. Hope will be fixed soon.
  • Bug with the address field's pop-up list of variants. (DSK-251226)

Open an empty tab (with Speed Dial). Write something in the address field, for example "badabum". In most cases you'll see only one item in the pop-up list under the address field: «Search the Web for "badabum"». Pressing up or down you'll choose this item. But don't choose it - leave only "badabum" in the field.
Now switch entering focus somewhere, for example, to the search field on the top of the Speed Dial page. Then set focus into the address field again. There's no pop-up list visible now, so to see it you need to press up or down button. Press any of them and - how do you think, what will you see? One item - «Search the Web for "badabum"»? I'm afraid, you won't. You'll see a lot of items that don't relate to "badabum" at all. I believe it's a bug, because pop-up variants doesn't contain the text you entered.
  • Duplicates doesn't take into account Speed Dial page. (DSK-251223)

If you open a new tab there's Speed Dial in it. But if you duplicate it now there's no Speed Dial in the duplicated tab but only a blank page. I think it's not very logical because duplicated tab is not exactly "duplicate" of the original.
There's one more a little not logical thing with duplicates because of the described feature. If you open a new tab and go some page in it, the Back button becomes active (it leads to Speed Dial). But if you duplicate this page now, the new duplicated tab's Back button is not active. So it's not exactly "duplicate" of the original tab again.
  • #-links with Russian symbols don't work. (DSK-257983)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • Scrolling in textareas with a lot of text doesn't work or works badly. (DSK-276604)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3216.
  • Scrolling in Print Preview doesn't work. (DSK-276602)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3216.
  • Artifacts (horizontal lines) in Print Preview after scrolling. (DSK-252886)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3216.
  • One more example of Opera trying to open file instead of downloading it. (DSK-258229)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3228.
  • The scroll in a textarea is disabled though the text is long enough. (DSK-270569)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3228.
  • Instead of downloading some files Opera tries to open them in the tab. (DSK-256544)
    Fixed in 11.50 build 1009.

INTERFACE

  • Text remains in Status Bar after closing the last tab with the mouse wheel. (DSK-260668)

Set "Allow window with no tabs" option to "on". Create 1 tab and open any page in it, for example, www.opera.com. Now hover the cursor on the tab in Tab Bar. You'll see the text "http://www.opera.com" in Status Bar. Now close the tab by pressing the mouse wheel on it. The text in Status Bar will still be displayed, though there's no any tabs in Opera, and the text "http://www.opera.com" looks strange.
  • Sometimes, if I write some long phrase fast enough in the address bar and press Up + Enter (to search what I've wrote with the default engine), the last 1-2 words are not passed for the search. (DSK-257520)

If there's much stuff in the browsing history and I type fast enough, Address Bar popup list is formed with a delay. And if I write several words and press Up + Enter to search it with the default search engine (as I do very often), sometimes the last several words are not passed for the searching.
For example, I type "It's not the way it's meant to be", but while I'm writing, HDD starts "chattering" and list of variants under the Address Bar is filling with delay. As soon as I finish writing, I press Up + Enter. But then I see only, for example, "It's not the way it's meant" in the search field on the site. The last words haven't yet appeared in the popup list when I was pressing Up + Enter, and haven't been sent for searching.
  • When the cursor hovers some popup hint, it (hint) is disappeared and never appears again until you move the cursor out and on the hint source again. (DSK-257523)

For example, open this page. Hover the cursor on the globe at the center of the page. You'll see hint ("Wikipedia"). Now hover the cursor on the hint - it will disappear and will never appear again until you move the cursor out of the globe and on it again.
In IE 8 and Firefox 3 all OK.
  • Hint in Status Bar disappears and doesn't appear again until you move the cursor out and on the hint source again. (DSK-258234)

To reproduce go to this page, for example. Now hover the cursor on the screenshot at the right side of the page. You'll see a link in the Status Bar ("http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Opera_Screenshot.png") and a hint near the cursor ("Opera Screenshot.png"). Now move the cursor on the hint so it disappears. You can see that text in Status Bar disappeared too, and it'll never be shown again until you move the cursor out of the screenshot and on it again.
In IE 8 and Firefox 3 all OK - hint in Status Bar is displayed after the same actions.
  • After page reloading cursor is always simple "arrow", even if it's above the link. (DSK-251228)

The bug that exists for a long time in different versions of Opera. If you hover the cursor on some text link, the cursor will change its form to the "hand" (that's OK). Then click on the link and don't move the cursor. If cursor is located on the text link again when the page is loaded, cursor's form will be usual "arrow" (not "hand") until you move the cursor (if you do it the cursor's form will change to the "hand" again).
In Chrome all OK, cursor takes appropriate form after the page is loaded.
  • Cursor's state isn't correct in some cases. (DSK-251420)

Place the cursor above any entering field so it's shape changes to caret. From that moment don't move cursor. Now scroll the page with mouse wheel to make cursor move out of that field to any not-entering area (its shape changes to usual arrow). Now scroll in the opposite direction so the cursor is placed above some entering field again. Cursor's shape remains the usual arrow (though it should be caret). In Firefox 3 it works like it used to (cursor becomes the caret). In Opera its shape changes to caret only after moving cursor.
Very easy to reproduce on Google search results page with the search field.
  • Top popup menus selection is different for "tab menu" and other menus.
Tab menu is removed in build 1892.
  • After being closed in minimized state, Opera always opens in window mode (even if it has been maximized before being closed). (DSK-254202)
It's not Opera but OS bug.
  • When typing in the address field, highlighting of the matching strings works very buggy.
Seems to be fixed in or before 10.54.
  • If some page have just started loading, its address in the address field popup list isn't highlighted while you type. (DSK-258237)
Seems to be fixed in or before 10.54.
  • Bug with dragging Speed Dial elements to the address fields and pressing Enter. (DSK-251219)
Seems to be partially fixed in or before 10.70 build 9053.
  • Address Bar's height is increasing when there are some specific fonts written in it. (DSK-251840)
Fixed in 11.10 build 2076 or earlier.
  • A little strange behavior of the new tab icon. (DSK-257519)
    Fixed in 11.50 build 1009.

WEB PAGES

  • Encoding for this page is detected wrong (with automatic detection selected). (DSK-265032)

    Compare:
    - Normal Russian text is displayed by default (Firefox, IE):
    http://files.myopera.com/MasterLu/files/Bad%20encoding%20detection%20(Firefox).png
    - Abracadabra instead of Russian text (Opera):
    http://files.myopera.com/MasterLu/files/Bad%20encoding%20detection%20(Opera).png
If manually set Cyrillic -> Windows 1251, text looks normally.
  • "Error 302 Moved Temporarily" sign instead of Flash objects. (DSK-253103)

Sometimes, when I block Flash objects (through Block Content...) and later reload that page, instead of the blocked object there's a sign: "Error 302 Moved Temporarily".
  • Scroll works strange on this page. (DSK-256180)

When you scroll down the text at the center with mouse wheel, it scrolls up (at the very beginning), and vise versa.
  • Gmail: attached files with some extensions and Russian names are being saved as "default.EXT".(DSK-251203)

Files with Russian names and some extensions (for example, "DOC"), that are attached to the messages, are being saved as "default.EXT" (for example, instead of "Документ.doc" there will be "default.doc" in saving dialog).
  • Some strange symbols in the select on adwords.google.com. (DSK-265215)
    Fixed in build 1892.
  • My Maps interface on Google Maps doesn't load. (DSK-265760)
    Fixed in build 1892.
  • On this site favicon isn't loaded. (DSK-258235)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • Mono-1.com is unusable. (DSK-251206)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • Unused white space on Google Maps. (DSK-251693)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • A little horizontal scrolling on this page and many other pages on that forum. (DSK-251225)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • Video player on this site doesn't work. (DSK-251323)
    Fixed in 10.50 build 3199.
  • Bugs with some lists on Skoda-avto.ru - Configurator. (DSK-251441)
    Fixed in 10.52 build 3333.
  • Unexpected scrolling on this page in the message. (DSK-251937)
Fixed in 11.00 build 1156 or earlier.
  • On this page after clicking "Download", file name in saving dialog is "aspi_471a2.htm" instead of "aspi_471a2.exe". (DSK-252623)
Fixed in 11.10 build 2076 or earlier.
  • TXT-files in Gmail are being opened instead of being downloaded. (DSK-264859)
    Fixed in 11.50 build 1009.
  • Gmail: clicking on the attachment (in Drafts or Sent) opens a new tab with abracadabra very often (no saving file dialog appears). (DSK-251208)
    Fixed in 11.50 build 1009.

UNSUPPORTED

  • Multiline tooltip doesn't work. (DSK-251204)

On this page in the right panel at the very bottom there's a link "Сообщить об ошибке". It has long tooltip on mouse hover. In Opera it is displayed without line breaks, so it looks bad. In IE 6-8 and Chrome it looks much better, because there are line breaks in the right places.
  • Flash objects isn't shown in thumbnails. (DSK-251901)
  • SVG animation via CSS doesn't work. (DSK-251654)

Go to the page and look at "via css". Picture is loaded sometimes (sometimes not), but animation doesn't work anyway. In Chrome 2 it works good.
  • MathML doesn't work in Opera.
    Done in 10.60 build 3426.
  • SVG Blur doesn't work. (DSK-251222)
    Test page isn't available anymore.

SUGGESTIONS

  • Address bar - searching not only for the beginning while entering. (forum thread)
  • Several spell checking dictionaries in one time. (forum thread)
  • Double-click selects one word in Address Bar instead of the whole address. (forum thread)

I see nothing bad if Opera will react on double-clicks like other browsers. Now double-clicking in Address Bar you select the whole address. But IMHO much more flexible is to select only one word with double-click and the whole address with triple-click (like IE and Firefox do).
  • When the text is written in several lines in some textarea, there's one unnecessary "hidden" symbol in the end of each line.

In IE and Chrome there's no extra symbols, and it seems more logical.
  • Support for the Firefox's AdBlock Plus plugin filter format.

While Opera has so inconvenient and week Content Blocker, it could at least support for the existing and very useful AdBlock Plus lists format (described here).
  • It would be great if in thumbnails the current page view was shown, not always the top part.
  • Textareas resizing like in Chrome.

Would be very convenient to make some textareas bigger when you need to (for example, on Google.Translate).
  • Highlighting of searching results in textareas should be more notable.

Now it's gray on white and very hard to find.
  • More advanced Content Blocker. (forum thread)

What I really miss are possibilities to block scripts and frames and normal import/export settings. Some bug fixing would be useful too.
  • Spell Checking settings in Preferences.

I think, it would be useful to have possibility to change Spell Checking settings (for example, to add new language to Spell Checking) when I haven't got inputs on the page (trough some new item in Preferences).
  • Please, make opening combinations for History (Ctrl+H), Transfers (Ctrl+J), etc. panels also closing it, if it's already open (with the panel!).

It would be great if described combinations would also be closing ones. For example, you press Ctrl+H - the History panel at the left appears. You press Ctrl+H again - it hides (the whole toolbar hides, I mean the gray panel with icons should hide too).
  • "Help" - "About Opera" page open in new tab instead of the current.
    Done in build 1880.
  • When there's another image for onhover event, until it's loaded the text label is displayed. Much better is to display old image until the new one is loaded.
    Done in 10.50 build 3216.
  • F1 page ("Opera Help") open in new tab instead of the current.
    Done in 10.50 build 3216.
  • Interface elements (checkboxes, radiobuttons, etc.) like in other browsers (OS default). (forum thread)
Done in 10.60 build 3445 or earlier.
  • Focus on address field when adding Speed Dial element. (forum thread)
Done in 11.10 build 2076 or earlier.
  • Option in global and site preferences to refresh or not refresh page when you go back.
Not actual since 11.50 build 1009 or earlier.

P. S. Now using faster, more convenient and less buggy browser...

Introduction

, , ,

Hello everybody! party

Thanks for reading this! No matter how and why you came to this blog - I'm always glad to see you. up

First of all, I have to confess something. Frankly speaking, it's not really a blog. It's something like my personal Opera bug/wish-tracker. I decided to post this because I wanted to gather all the bugs I know of and all the wishes I dream of concerning Opera in one place. Why did I do so? Hmm, good question! Let me try to explain.

For some people (like me) it's very nice and interesting to see how some programs (for example, Opera) are getting better day by day. They get rid of old bugs, get new features, change their interfaces to better-looking and more functional ones. And it's absolutely great to know that you are some small part of it. I believe, for many people here it's normal, but for me, ordinary user, it's interesting and special feeling.

I think, you'll agree with me, it's very pleasant to see that what you do doesn't disappear in vain (especially when it's concerning some thing you care of). One thing when you download new version of some program and find there some new feature that you've read somewhere, and absolutely different is to find some change or fix that you personally suggested or reported (maybe, not only you, but you too). But even more important is to see that some old annoying bug (maybe, very small and with no value for others), that had been spoiled your life for much time, was fixed at last after YOUR report. It means developers care not only of some abstract user or millions of users - they care of YOU, and they respect you, because you are no less important to them than all the rest.

Well, it seems to be long introduction, I guess it's time to get to the point.

Opera has no open bug-tracker or TO-DO-list. So, why not to create your own? Of course, it would be unofficial and information-only, but maybe, it would be useful for somebody (maybe, even from developers). I believe, something like this was created many times by different users. Well, let there be another one. smile

I will concentrate here my bug-reports that I already sent through the Bug Report Wizard and my posts from Desktop wish-list and Beta testing forum threads. I'll add here new items if they appear. I'm not some kind of cool web-developer, so I don't pick deeply in technical stuff. All my bugs are very earthy and most of them can be noticed in normal Opera usage, not some JS-experimenting or web-developing.

For now I plan to post only 2 messages in this blog - this one and the second one with the list. The second post will be changed from time to time. Now I don't have some clear actions plan, so some changes in the described scheme are possible. smile

Thanks for your attention!

P. S. List will be posted in few days, come back soon! smile
