Hiking at Torrey Pines
Sunday, February 25, 2007 4:05:20 AM
A friend of mine (thank you Kim
) gave me her hiking shoes and told me they are very comfortable, waterproof and perfect for long hikes. So I wanted to introduce my feet to her shoes, and what better way than going for a nice hike by the Ocean and near by clifs.
Here are some photos form today:
The Beach
Itchy beak
Stone carving
Lunch time
Paragliders
In the air
Swimming class
And after only 3-4h of hiking, my left foot is hurting!

I read that having two pairs of socks (a thin inner one and a thick outer one) helps protect against blisters, but to be honest it didn't really work on my last major hike in Waterton
I use dayhiking boots or snowboots (depending on the weather) unless I have a pretty compelling reason to use something heavier. Which you doubtless will in Chile

My lower shin is hurting, where the upper front part of the shoe is rubbing against my leg.
Do you have any ideas what to do with that?

I just looked up foot care advice in my Rockies hiking book, and it didn't offer much. But I liked the warning in there not to go barefoot in porcupine country

good advice, who would think of that!

Beautiful Beach. You could try wrapping an ACE bandage around your shin. It would probably be a good idea to have a couple with you anyway in Chile. Sprains happen. Anyways, have a great day!

I hope, your food will get better very soon. Maybe you need some better socks? Such one, which are really padded and soft.

I tried with regural socks, but got some thicker ones as well. Will see on my next hiking trip.
Maybe this weekend!
PS
I will work on my food as well!

I'm also concerned about my hiking shoes. They’re waterproof but after a long hike the humidity stays inside and they become wet. In Iceland I will have no way to dry them.
Only 20 days!!! YAY!
Are you in good shape now?
MayaMaya.Maya # Thursday, March 1, 2007 2:43:11 AM
I hope you will be better than I am!
I have been working 12h every day, plus I am working this weekend and cannot be too far from home, jsut in case they call me, so I don't think I can go for a hike and another 'shoe trial'.
And 2 more tests coming up in March and new projects for work... It never ends!
next year!
That's how I encourage myslef!

You could try getting a pair of socks that come up higher than your boots, and roll the tops back outside the boots, sometimes helps to keep the edge of the boots from moving as much relative to you leg.

I will try that!
Next week! Whis weekend I am working!
