New way to Play Croquet - Poison Croquet

Through out the years, the game of croquet has been modified a number of times. In each country, they may have a different set of rules depending on how they want them to be. Along with the different set of rules for each croquet type, there also variation in names the game is called.

In the western part of the US, there is also a game poison croquet. This type of croquet is not like the traditional one but is played by many amateur croquet players. The game uses the usual nine-wicket croquet sets and can be played by two to six players. This game has similar rules to the regular American garden croquet. The only difference is that there are no points scored.

The players start at the same side of the playing field. The order of the game depends on the colors of the player’s mallet and the matching colored ball to the mallet of each player. In the traditional game of croquet, the player can score every time the ball passes a wicket or hits the stick. In this kind of croquet, they win when they are poisoned and eliminate the other players. The player can be poisoned when he or she successfully passes her ball through all the wickets and hits the stick at the end. After hitting the stick, the ball then becomes “poisoned” and any ball that is hit by it will be eliminated from the game. Therefore, the goal of each player is to eliminate the others and be the only one left in the game

This is the only variation in the American rules of playing croquet and the rest of the rules apply. One a player has a poisoned ball, the other players still have a chance to get their ball poisoned as well. They have to finish the course and avoid the other poisoned balls. If there is more than one poisoned ball, the one that hits the other first will eliminate the ball that was hit. And after all the others are gone and have been eliminated, the owner of the remaining ball wins the game.

This type of croquet game is quite popular among amateur and lawn players due to the fact that it is quite simple and informal. This type of game also doesn’t require a specific playing field, like that of the original one that requires a mowed lawn. It depends on the players whether they want their playing field to also be a challenge.
