Merry Christmas!

Mechanical Ballet

Amongst many highlights of a few days in the south west (chilling on the deserted beach at Carlyon Bay, seeing Elowen play live, mini-festival fun at Cadfest) we saw The Red Arrows showing off above the bay at Fowey.

This is the first, and probably last, appreciation of military hardware on this blog, but the reds do put on a spectacular show. That I'd never seen before.

Matt has Flickr'd some pictures already, I'm being tardy with that, but there is a silly video that will Follow Shortly...:left:

I saw the Red Arrers far too many times as a kid.

Dead impressive really, but not the most ecologically sound day out.

As the very little girl behind us astutely commented, "They are very good, we are very lucky to see them." I think Pete was more impressed than he would have been by the 'interesting boats' I'd led him to believe we were there to see until about half an hour before the Arrers arrived.

How did you avoid the Red Arrows as a kid? I thought they were based on the palace pier or something. The best ever display was the one where one plane, doing a low pass over the sea front hit the mast of a yatcht.

There was an explosion as the pilot ejected, the plane crashed into the sea only 100 yards out at fantastic speed. And as the pilot ditched in the water with his chute barely open there was this enormous stunned silence.

You just can't buy entertainment like that.

Dunno how I missed them.

But the venue for when I finally did was perfect.
