Sticky post

Half 4 in the morning...

And here I am setting up a blog. I must be nuts, or insomniac, or something.

Not sure what else I should say, I want to try and set the tone. Well, don't expect anything profound. Not on purpose anyway.

Look. I'll go off, get some sleep, have a think, and see what else I come up with.

Seeing in the New Year

, , ,

My eyes were dim, I could not see.

Then my new specs came in early.

Not that anyone has noticed yet. rolleyes

Ok, I am exaggerating about the not seeing. While I did break my glasses at the beginning of December I have a second pair (essential when you're as blind as I am without).

But when I went it to see if anything could be done to repair the broken ones (it couldn't sad ) it turns out I was overdue for an eye test. So it seemed like a good time to get new frames.

I had my test just before Christmas and was told my new pair wouldn't be ready until the middle of January. Then out of the blue I got a text on New Year's eve to say they were ready to be picked up. I guess the lab was quiet over the holidays.

So I wore the new glasses to the family New Year's party, didn't say anything, and waited for someone to note the change. And today when we were Skyping to the brother in Canada they didn't pick it up either.

Oh well, overall it's been a very enjoyable Christmas and New Year with lots of good times spent with the family.

I hope all of you had a good holiday. smile

C'mon, I travelled all way to Saskatoon. I want to see a win.

Let's go Riders!! Let's go Riders!!

One Week

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPo9ISQpzvM

Slightly less than one week now. I think preparations for Canada are on schedule, unless I've forgotten something major. whistle

I've also been in contact with folks in Saskatchewan and have some rough plans to meet up. I'm looking forward to seeing them. up

In other news...

Tuesday night I went to see The Guard

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRsMLuCP8a0

At times very dark, at times very odd, but consistently very funny. And then entire cast give top performances. Do try and catch it if you see it playing. Though I don't know if it's got a North American release yet.

EDIT:

I should mention that the other consistent thing about The Guard is the profanity. You'll get the idea in the NSFW trailer. If you can get past that it's a cracker of a film.

Have a good one, eh.

Can you go home again?

, , , ...

Popular opinion suggests you can't. However, I think I need to test this for myself.

So I'm off to Saskatchewan at the end of July for two weeks to visit my brother and his family and finally meet this new nephew face-to-face. smile

It should be lots of fun. There's already a camping trip planned, and I'll be there for the Fringe Festival. Plus visiting with relatives and friends.

In other news:

A couple of weekends ago we went down to the banks of the Nore to see some Coracles being built.

And our chickens have finally started laying. party One egg this morning, hopefully the first of many.

Last but not least, Seasick Steve has a new album out. I'd recommend it. up

1... 2...

, , ,

Our chickens have hatched arrived, so I guess it's ok to count them now.

We went down to Myshall in Carlow on Sunday, to a poultry sale. It was quite something to see, I had no idea that it would be such a big event.

There were plenty of chickens, obviously.

Including some quite exotic breeds.

This rooster looked like he was on stilts. bigsmile

But there were also ducks and geese.

Pigeons

Songbirds

Rabbits

even goats.

Frankly, it was little overwhelming to a couple of novice chicken buyers, but eventually we found what we were after. A pair of Rhode Island Reds.

Mam gave them a good once over and was satisfied with their condition. And they were plenty lively, as we learned in the escape attempt while they were being boxed up. But once they were settled in their crate in the back of the van they settled down for the trip home.

The transfer to the coop went much more smoothly and though they were a bit leery of these strange new digs

They are well settled in now.

It will be 2-3 weeks before we start seeing eggs, stay tuned. In the meantime you can go and look at the rest of the album.

Well I finally managed to fix my blog, as much as is possible rolleyes But that's not the only thing that's been keeping me busy.

I Broke My Blog

, , , ...

I don't know if you've been following all the latest developments around My Opera, but I seem to have found one of the downsides.

First Opera introduced the Single Sign On, which basically means once you have created and signed in with your My Opera account you can acces any of Opera's services without having to log in again. up

Opera also launched a new web mail service and gave all My Opera members an account. up

Now one of the issues with this Single Sign On is that some My Opera members have user names which are not compatible with some services. Opera has realized this and have created a wizard which allows you to change your user name to something that will work everywhere. up

Now, my old username - Mickeyjoe_irl - did have a problem. The underscore _ is one of those characters which is not compatible, so I decided to use the wizard to fix this and allow me to use services like Opera Link and Opera Unite, unavailable to me up to now.

So I went through the wizard and changed my username to Mickeyjoe-Irl and everything seemed to go fine. I logged out, logged back in with my new details no problem. I then setup Opera Link and synced my speed dial between my laptop and Desiree. up

But when I checked my blog I noticed a problem, images were missing and links were broken. While the wizard will update your blog address and albums, it does NOT update any links you have included in your posts and comments. no

So I'm in the process of going through all my old blog posts fixing the links. Comments on other blogs will just have to stay broken. Even if I can find them the time limit for editing has likely expired. sad

If you know of any links to me here on My Opera on your own blog you will have to check and update those as well.

Just to clarify you need to change

Mickeyjoe_irl

to

Mickeyjoe-Irl

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Happy Paddy's Day everyone.

I had some trouble trying to come up with an idea for a post for today.

Let there be Lights

, , ,

And God said, 'Let there be light' and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected.
Spike Milligan

It ended up being Sunday and I did it myself but I finally got the light fixtures in the kitchen up.

They work better than I could have hoped, giving a strong even light throughout the kitchen with no shadows.

Next up is my bedroom. That could be tricky, since I've had a look at the wiring and it's a bit of a rats nest.
