No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

, , ,

Yesterday, as I was coming out of the pharmacy in Freshford I noticed the older couple parked in front of me was having car trouble. I sounded like they needed a jump start and since I carry cables I offered to help them out.

So I hooked everything up and we gave it a try, but all I succeeded in doing was draining my own battery so we were both stranded. rolleyes

On to Plan B, I rang the auto-rescue and they sent out a mechanic though it took the bones of an hour. Thankfully there was no permanent damage to either my car or the other couple's and we were both on the road after a minute. Still, it threw my whole day out of whack and I only got done half what I wanted to when I finally got to Kilkenny.

I did get to see the Santa Claus parade up but only because I got stuck behind it down which only made me later. But I mustn't gripe too much. I got the essentials done. The rest can wait until next weekend.

In the meantime I may re-read my owner's manual and make sure I know what I'm doing for the next time. whistle

Watching TV the other night something caught my... ear confused I wasn't interested in the ad, but the music that was used in it.

A bit of searching (isn't is amazing what you can find using the internet? wink ) and I managed to track down a decent bit of blues. I think my blog is overdue for some more.

If you weren't already feeling old

, ,

Yesterday I told you about Wallace and Gromit's 20th birthday. And I gave you a link to Google's UK home page.

In the comments folks seemed surprised that it had been 20 years since their first appearance. I was too to be honest. smile

Well, Google now has another holiday logo up and this time it's Sesame Street's 40th anniversary faint

So yeah, I'm feeling kinda old.

Anyway, here's a classic moment I remember from (what I'm beginning to realise is a distant) childhood.

Another one, after my time, but I recall it being on the news when Joe Raposo's death was announced.

And finally, just because it was in the results when I searched for "Sesame Street Google"

Happy Birthday Sesame Street party You may be 40, but you've never gotten old.

Cracking

, , , ...

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that today is Wallace And Gromit's 20th birthday.

Aardman Animations is celebrating, naturally.

But Google also decided to mark the event with one of their Holiday logos.

If you missed it, I think it's only on the UK site and I'm posting this kinda late, you can see it here.

Now the obvious thing would be to stick a YouTube video in here, but it seems that (for reasons of copyright I presume) I can only give you a link.

So go have a look at Cracking Contraptions - The Tellyscope.

While you're there watch the rest, it's worth it. smile

Hail the Conkerers

, , , ...

Hello,

Once again I feel I have to apologise for not being around as much as I would like. As usual college is keeping me busy. But it's reading week and a long weekend to boot so I have a little (too little really whistle ) time.

And what does a Canadian in Ireland do when he has some time off and it's the October Bank Holiday?

He goes to the Conker Festival of course. wink

Held in Freshford

The chestnuts for the competition are provided by 52 Horse Chestnut trees that surround the village green, which produce 30,000 conkers.

Here's some of them.

I'm sure you're wondering what exactly conkers are at this point. Luckily, but not surprisingly, Wikipedia has an article.

A couple of competitors

Aside from the championship there were other games

And crafts

These lads

started a mini-company selling slate crafts as part of their transition year.

The Kilkenny Flower Club were exhibiting in St. Lachtain's Church

which is famous for its 12th century carved sandstone entry.

A good day out, aside from the weather. Tomorrow? Back to the grind.

Another Canadian in Ireland

I spotted this van last weekend on the High Street in Kilkenny, though it was only last night I found my Bluetooth dongle so I could download the photos off my phone.

Now,Timmy's has been in Ireland for a while. There's even a Spar in Kilkenny that has one of those kiosks.

But I'm hoping this might mean there's going to be an actual store. coffee

And there was much rejoicing

The move finally got finished late last night. I can't believe we actually got it done, every time I thought it was finished there always seemed to be something else to go in the van.

The new house looks like our stuff was air dropped in. God knows how long before we get everything put away. And college is starting on Monday faint

Anyway, here's a few shots of the new house.

The front

The back

The yard

I did say it was a farm house. wink

Moving on

, , , ...

Hey it's me smile hi

I know I haven't been around the OC much (work has me pretty busy, but that's another post)

I see that lots of people have moved, are moving, or may be moving sometime in the future. Well, you can add two more to the list. My brother and his wife are currently moving from Vancouver to Saskatchewan. And Mam and I will be moving at the end of the month.

We're going nowhere near as far, just the other end of the valley on the far side of the village. It's a nice farmhouse and I think we'll be quite happy there, but it's the move itself that has me concerned. I'm only going to have this weekend and the next and I'm not sure if it's enough time. worried Plus I'll have to get ready for the start of college straight after.

Oh, it will all work out in the end. It always does. wink But for now I just need a bit of time with my neuroses.

And I may disappear again until we get settled. whistle

Photos of a Spanish holiday

, ,

Mine by coincidence.

Now that I was able to retrieve them from the dead laptop and I'm in Kilkenny blatantly stealing my aunts broadband I finally managed to upload some of the photos I took in Spain.

More in the album and more will be uploaded when I have the time.
