Just a quick post (now that I have mostly figured out these Spanish keyboards ) to let you know that enjoying myself here in Nerja The sun is "splitting the stones" but there´s a nice breeze off the Med and plenty of cold cervesa We even managed to figure out how to get an ice coffee after a few failed experiments.
We´ve been taking it easy for the most part, though yesterday we did a little road trip to see the Alhambra. Amazing place, I took lots of photos which will be coming.
Only a couple of days left here, which is nowhere near long enough, but I´ll make the best of it.
For about a week now it's been really flaky, partly down to the weather I think. It's improved along with the weather, but still drops out regularly. It seems to be worse in the evenings, which of course is the only time I have to be on-line
If it keeps up I'll have to do something, ie. ring my ISP. For now we'll just have to grin and bear it.
I hoped that I would be able to post this yesterday, but the server monkeys weren't having it. I spent most of the evening uploading my photos. By the time I had that finished it was bedtime.
We've been in the grips of an hard stretch of winter weather with nearly a week of daily snow falls. Most unusually it hasn't been melting, but has just hung around getting deeper.
It has caused major disruption all over the east of the country, particularly transportation - roads and Dublin airport being the most prominent. The worst, personally, has been the roads. Last week it was snowing every morning when I woke up and I had to crawl down the back lanes where I live to reach a major road to get to college.
It finally broke on Friday, which I had off, and yesterday was clear though the roads were only half thawed and very slippery.
This morning the snows came again. At least it's melting on the same day.
Most television leaves me decidedly unimpressed, which is why I prize QI more than diamonds.
Gentile Genteel, funny, and above all intelligent - due in large part to the host, Stephen Fry - I think this may be my favourite show period.
In the latest episode we learned that French writer Guy de Maupassant hated the Eiffel Tower so much his favourite restaurant was inside the tower itself, because he didn't have to look at it.
When one of the panelists pointed out that de Maupassant could have just asked for a table facing the other way Fry remarked
He was a French writer trying to make a point, and therefore a git.
Of course YouTube has plenty of clips from the show, here's one that always leaves me weeping with laughter.
No not yours. I'm not fishing for compliments here, or criticism for that matter.
I feel I need to say something to all you good people whose blogs I follow. Just because I haven't left a comment lately doesn't mean that I'm not still avidly reading your posts. It's just I'm not feeling particularly witty, profound, or original - or, depending on my energy levels, relevant or even coherent.
Also, if it's an older post that I haven't gotten too yet and there's already a string of comments, I can find it hard to jump into a "conversation" that's on the go. I have the same problem in the big blue room.
What it boils down to is I believe when one of you goes to the trouble of making a post you deserve a good comment which shows my appreciation and hopefully adds something. If I can't do that then I think it's better to keep my mouth shut. If anything, it's a failure on my part.
