A Canadian in Ireland

Doesn't have the ring of "An American in Paris" (or even "An American at Opera") but what can you do?

Windows Upgrade

, ,

No, it's not what you think.

Before

Recently the new landlord decided to do a few improvements to the house. Namely, new windows and doors and a fresh paint job.
After

The doors and windows were done on the day of my last exam. Fortunately I had all my revision done because the place was like a construction site. They did get the entire job finished in the one day though - 14 windows and the front and back doors. It's great to have it done, all double glazed and insulated which should really help with the heating bills come winter.

This past week was the painter's turn. It took him a bit longer, but it was only one lad and he lost a day to rain. He did a great job, and very thorough. A bit too thorough maybe. While he was painting the chimney it seems he did something to the satellite dish which knocked out our Sky. With luck it should be fixed by the end of the week.

On the other hand if this hadn't happened I would have missed an interview on terrestrial telly with a pole-dancing unicyclist  ... in Irish. :faint:

Oh yes, I did some "real" windows upgrades during the week as well. Mainly installing XP SP3, and some other bits and pieces like switching from Nero to Ashampoo for CD burning. Can't claim any great improvements, but there's been no major grief either.

Now you just need to persuade him to cover that mass of roof with solar panels and your sorted.

Wow, you have a lot of windows on your house.

Mickeyjoe_irl 9. June 2008, 21:29

Yeah sprogger, it would be a great idea, especially as the front faces south. But your man is basically doing all this of his own accord, we haven't had much say in things.

It didn't strike me until I sat down and counted them Elly, but it averages out to 1 window per room.

That is nice, though.

what a lovely looking house - nice windows too. The double glazing - excellent in the climate you live in :D

Mickeyjoe_irl 16. June 2008, 20:45

Thanks hungry, we're very happy with everything. The new windows can only be better than the old ones, which were in pretty poor shape.

hungryghost 16. June 2008, 21:55

now if we could only say the same thing about MS-windows and their transition to Vista....
