A Canadian in Ireland

Doesn't have the ring of "An American in Paris" (or even "An American at Opera") but what can you do?

By the grace of Almighty God...1

and Vodafone data support

Well, I think I'm back. I hope I'm back. My connection was up and down like a yo-yo all weekend :irked: but it seems to have settled now.

So, what did I miss? (Quite a bit from the size of my watch list :faint:)

It was the August bank holiday, unfortunately someone forgot to tell the weather. :frown: Lots of events were cancelled. Including  the National Steam Rally in Stradbally. Wish I'd known before driving all the way out there.

Moving on... Visitor time again. My cousin and his family who were holidaying out in Galway are coming for a few days before the head back to Canada. And, out of the blue, I heard from another cousin who works on a yacht in Spain. She's visiting a friend in Sligo and wants to come and visit us too. I should ask Bord Fáilte for a cut.

A teaser

, , , ...

I shot a bit of video while I was in Stradbally, so hopefully this will keep you going.

Plowing Engine

It's a plowing engine - a Fowler, I think. You can tell it's a plowing engine by the big winch drum mounted under the boiler.

Because of the weight and steel tires, using the engine to tow a plough would have caused too much damage to the ground. So they used two engines, one at either end of the field and winched a steerable plow back and forth between them.

Patience is a virtue

Hi,

I know I promised pictures from Stradbally, but I just haven't had the energy or inclination.

Here's a little teaser to keep you going.

One down, 174 more to go. (I went a bit mad with the camera :insane: )

What have I gotten myself into?

Alright. If you're interested, please leave a comment and I'll set up a group.

Blackstairs Rally

, , , ...

The weather's been holding so I went to the Balckstairs Vintage Rally today. Had to keep my promise to Louis.

Just click the photo

Or here to see the whole album.

I was a bit disappointed, it was more of a vintage rally than a steam rally, so there were only 4 steam engines in total. But lots of tractors, commercial vehicles (trucks), cars, and stationary engines. They had radio controlled helicopters as well, but I did not see them flying.

It was dry and sunny, but very close (humid) and not a breathe of wind. I was melted by the end of the day. I still had signs to do before and after. Fortuantely it was the same neck of the woods for both.
