And there was much rejoicing

The move finally got finished late last night. I can't believe we actually got it done, every time I thought it was finished there always seemed to be something else to go in the van.

The new house looks like our stuff was air dropped in. God knows how long before we get everything put away. And college is starting on Monday :faint:

Anyway, here's a few shots of the new house.

The front

The back

The yard

I did say it was a farm house.

Moving on

, , , ...

Hey it's me  hi

I know I haven't been around the OC much (work has me pretty busy, but that's another post)

I see that lots of people have moved, are moving, or may be moving sometime in the future. Well, you can add two more to the list. My brother and his wife are currently moving from Vancouver to Saskatchewan. And Mam and I will be moving at the end of the month.

We're going nowhere near as far, just the other end of the valley on the far side of the village. It's a nice farmhouse and I think we'll be quite happy there, but it's the move itself that has me concerned. I'm only going to have this weekend and the next and I'm not sure if it's enough time. :worried: Plus I'll have to get ready for the start of college straight after.

Oh, it will all work out in the end. It always does. But for now I just need a bit of time with my neuroses.

And I may disappear again until we get settled.

Quick Update from Spain

, ,

Hola! :D

Just a quick post (now that I have mostly figured out these Spanish keyboards :faint: ) to let you know that enjoying myself here in Nerja The sun is "splitting the stones" but there´s a nice breeze off the Med and plenty of cold cervesa  We even managed to figure out how to get an ice coffee after a few failed experiments. :yuck:

We´ve been taking it easy for the most part, though yesterday we did a little road trip to see the Alhambra. Amazing place, I took lots of photos which will be coming.

Only a couple of days left here, which is nowhere near long enough, but I´ll make the best of it.

:spock:

Greetings from the frozen wastes of

, , , ...

Ireland

We've been in the grips of an hard stretch of winter weather with nearly a week of daily snow falls. Most unusually it hasn't been melting, but has just hung around getting deeper.

It has caused major disruption all over the east of the country, particularly transportation - roads and Dublin airport being the most prominent. The worst, personally, has been the roads. Last week it was snowing every morning when I woke up and I had to crawl down the back lanes where I live to reach a major road to get to college.

It finally broke on Friday, which I had off, and yesterday was clear though the roads were only half thawed and very slippery.

This morning the snows came again. At least it's melting on the same day.

For the minute it's clear, though there may be more snow in the morning. I'll keep you posted.

Comments and the lack thereof

, , ,

No not yours. I'm not fishing for compliments here, or criticism for that matter. :left: :right:

I feel I need to say something to all you good people whose blogs I follow. Just because I haven't left a comment lately doesn't mean that I'm not still avidly reading your posts. It's just I'm not feeling particularly witty, profound, or original - or, depending on my energy levels, relevant or even coherent.

Also, if it's an older post that I haven't gotten too yet and there's already a string of comments, I can find it hard to jump into a "conversation" that's on the go. I have the same problem in the big blue room.

What it boils down to is I believe when one of you goes to the trouble of making a post you deserve a good comment which shows my appreciation and hopefully adds something. If I can't do that then I think it's better to keep my mouth shut. :zip: If anything, it's a failure on my part.

Obligatory Christmas post

Thanks for passing this on to me Leazz

I hope you were all good little boys and girls and Santa brought you what you wanted. He did for me.

A bit surprising that he came at all. We were a bit naughty and only got our decorating done yesterday. Still, I think it turned out rather well.

Last year I posted some seasonal songs which people seemed to enjoy. Again, I'm late, but better late than never.

Ireland - the 5?st state?

, , , ...

By now, unless you've been hiding - in a deep cave, under a rock, with your fingers in your ears, humming loudly to yourself - you'll know the Barack Obama haas been elected president of the US. All I can say is

About bloody time.

The campaign has been going on for what, two years?

A few things that I don't understand:

Ok, America is a superpower and an important player in global affairs. But why does the Irish media appear to be obsessed with American politics? I am baffled by the amount of coverage it receives, which seems comparable to the coverage Irish politics gets.

I doubt that Irish politics gets the same interest in America. Can the average American name the Irish Taoiseach (Prime Minister)? It's Brian Cowen, BTW.

And what about the Canadian election? Yeah, there was one back in October. I think it got one mention on the Irish evening news.

There seems to be something in the Ireland-America relationship that I've missed.

So I'm asking, what's your perception of the American election coverage where you live? Did you follow it all? Did you think you got too little, too much, or enough? How interested were you?

And for the Americans, how much coverage does foreign politics get in your media?

One final point, after all this Obama still won't be in office until the new year :faint:

In Comedy, Timing is Everything

, , ,

The other night I was sitting with Mom watching Monty Python. Normally she doesn't mind, but this was one of the more surreal episodes and she wasn't really in the humor. So we started having a discussion about changing the channel. The central debate being whether what we were watching was comedy or just silly. (You can probably guess which side I was on  )

So there I was trying to argue for the sophistication of Python when they came back from the ads straight to The Colonel.

It has come to my attention that this show is getting far too silly!

:eyes: You couldn't make this stuff up.

Not the exact scene, but the closest I can find on YouTube.
