A Canadian in Ireland

Doesn't have the ring of "An American in Paris" (or even "An American at Opera") but what can you do?

A post for Brother freethinker

, , , , ,

And anyone else who might be interested.

How to add an image to a post when it's not already in an My Opera album.

1. Start a new post as normal.

2. In the bottom right corner of the New blog post window is the Add images/files area. Click on the Upload new link.

3. You will now be asked to select a file on your own computer to upload to My Opera. Either type the path into the box, or click Choose... to bring up the standard MS Open window.

4. Once you have your file selected (the box will now be filled in), click on UPLOAD FILE. Uploading may take a while depending on the size of the image and the speed of your connection.

5. When the image is uploaded to Opera, you will see a selection of "code snippets" that you can choose from to place the image in your post. Highlight the one you want, copy, and paste it into the Message box where you want the image to appear in the text of your post.

Make sure you copy the full line of code, including the square brackets [ and ]. I've had problems with missing the beginning or end if the line extends past the edge of the Add image/files box.

6. If everything works you should get something like this.

[IMGCENTER=/Mickeyjoe_irl/homes/blog/Label.jpg]

Which will give you this.

Hope this is helpful. If you have any questions, please ask.

WOW. So majestic in the larger size. Fitting tribute to Walky.

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 22:10

And I only picked it because it was handy.

Brother sprogger's work has been underappreciated.

sanshan 29. July 2006, 22:13

oooo...I notice a typo..should we tell him?

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 22:15

I suppose. You first.

sprogger 29. July 2006, 22:17

Hmmm that look familiar :D
There is more that one typo, my spelling and typing is appalling.

sprogger 29. July 2006, 22:18

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 22:33

sprogger 29. July 2006, 22:44

sprogger 29. July 2006, 22:59

:D

sanshan 29. July 2006, 23:01

I thought only Scotsmen had BIG sticks...

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 23:11

Is this any way to treat your spiritual leader?

sprogger 29. July 2006, 23:12

I bet it was a scots man that told you that.
Us Irish are famed far and wide for our Big Sticks.

sanshan 29. July 2006, 23:13

Oh, he didn't have to tell me...

sprogger 29. July 2006, 23:19

Ive become all mute.....

Congratulations though, the Scots are second only to the Irish in the production of "BIG Sticks"

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 23:20

Holy God,

Poor Brother freethinker is going to have the fright of his life when he stops by.

wickedlizard 29. July 2006, 23:41

sprogger 29. July 2006, 23:41

What, I was talking about my walking sticks.

hungryghost 29. July 2006, 23:50

LOL...beautiful - and I'm referring to the label and whiskey :D

Mickeyjoe_irl 29. July 2006, 23:54

freethinker 30. July 2006, 08:07

Difficult to follow when you're running, Brothers and Sisters! Why should I be afraid ? Did you ever hear of Basque Makhila :

http://www.makhila.com/pub-anglais/index.htm

Brother-Father Irreverend, you're my savior in Operaland and I thank you so much !

Mickeyjoe_irl 30. July 2006, 10:33

Brother freethinker,

I hope you were able to follow my instructions. We got a little sidetracked. :D

That Makhila is beautiful, but the price :faint:

I have a soft spot for the Shillelagh anyway.

There's something I didn't know. There's a whole style of martial art based around the Shillelagh. See here and here.

freethinker 30. July 2006, 14:26

Very impressive ! Like the price of the makhila, indeed. :headbang: Which explains why I didn't buy one when I worked there in Basque Land. I've got the feeling that martial arts are practised everywhere you find walking sticks. It reminds me of the first itinerant buddhist monks who were terrific walkers (introducing their religion from North India to China through the Himalaya-passes) and learned how to defend themselves and fight with their big sticks. Here legend mixes with history of martial arts.
http://www.zenmind.com/bodhidharma.html
So we humans begin our life walking and then fighting and then walking and meditating.
. Thanks for the travel to old Ireland

technogeekboy 31. July 2006, 01:03

I see you have been hard at work while I was gone! Quite impressive I must say. When will it be available in the states???

sprogger 31. July 2006, 16:44

Irish Martial arts? when I was growing up we just called it beating the bejesus out of the outher fella with a stick.
Or your typical Saturday night. :knight:

technogeekboy 31. July 2006, 17:22

Ahh yes, the good old days. Now we are older and wiser........and use our stick to help us walk instead of beatings.

sanshan 31. July 2006, 17:40

Walk softly now brothers

Mickeyjoe_irl 31. July 2006, 18:39

Brother Tech,

I can take no credit for this. (For fear Brother sprogger would beat the bejayzus out of me.) It's all his excellent work. Check out his blog or the album in the COTWG.

Brother Sprogger,

I think that's what all martial arts boil down to. Or maybe your man's trying to justify his nights down the pub. "Honestly Guard, I was just getting in some practise".

sprogger 31. July 2006, 19:14

"Honestly Guard, I was just getting in some practise"
"What do ya meen ya dont belive me."
"Here I`ll give you a demonstration"
"But I need a volunteer( insert evil grin here).

technogeekboy 31. July 2006, 22:03

Well then Sprogger, you are good not only with a stick but also a mouse! I like the design and will check out more pics on your blog.

hungryghost 2. August 2006, 06:30

What have a i run into here?

Walking sticks being used as cudgels....tsk tsk tsk. I prefer using stale hard cinammon buns as catalputs instead; you can strike from afar...

And no fair using Irish accents to get your point across!

:D :D

sanshan 2. August 2006, 06:35

That's funny. That gives me an idea for another post. Hmmm.

hungryghost 2. August 2006, 06:53

oooh. I wanna credit, or at least shared credit

Hungry is voracious for credit :D :D

Hi Mickey, you dont' mind us hanging out in you blog lounge do ya?

:D :D

sanshan 2. August 2006, 08:22

Now this is a speakeasy! and it's got real booze too...:drunk:

sprogger 2. August 2006, 14:32

your choice Holy Ail or unholy whiskey :D

wickedlizard 2. August 2006, 14:45

i am out of breath with this jumping around blogs!

didn´t have a clue this was going on until I had a look at the walker church and next thing you know I am on a wild goose chase! Thanks Mickey! You !

The Irish are so good at winding us up!!!

freethinker 2. August 2006, 17:47

Why not Ale and whiskey together ? :drunk: Walker church fidels shouldn't be stopped by this, eh ?

sanshan 2. August 2006, 17:53

yesh, Ale with a whisky chaser. Perfect Brother freethinker. :drunk:

wickedlizard 2. August 2006, 17:55

What time is over there?
here: 17:55

Mickeyjoe_irl 2. August 2006, 20:01

Well lads, how's she cuttin'?

Nice to see you've been enjoying yourselves while I was gone.

Keep up the good work.

wickedlizard 2. August 2006, 20:02

momable 15. July 2007, 00:07

Hey, I want a stick that is also a flame thrower or has a big knife hidden in it! (Insert evil grin here)

sprogger 15. July 2007, 00:39

Sounds like a fairly simple conversion project-
1) Find a stick that is ascetically pleasing for your needs

2) Sharpen the end. Close enough to a knife for our needs

3) Given the intrinsic flammable nature of wood, which is what most sticks are made of, apply a flame or other ignition source to your previously sharpened stick. Once it has achieved a blase that you are satisfied with... throw it at someone. there is the flame thrower.

:D
Nearly a year later and this comes back from the dead, will the madness never end? :eyes:

Mickeyjoe_irl 15. July 2007, 01:03

Tsk, tsk. Why would you need such a deadly walking stick Elly?

On second thought, it's best if I don't know. Plausible deniability

And how did I know that sprogger would appear at the mention of the flame thrower.

sprogger 15. July 2007, 01:07

Now MJ what exactly are you trying to say?
Hmm?
I do vaguly remember that it was established who the flame thrower actualy belonged to...

Mickeyjoe_irl 15. July 2007, 01:22

Mickeyjoe_irl 15. July 2007, 10:53

Yes, yes, I know. My bad. :frown:

But would it have killed you to resist temptation? :D

sprogger 15. July 2007, 11:18

if you had stayed away from the rolling eyes and prolonged sighs the temptation might not been so ... well tempting:D

Mickeyjoe_irl 15. July 2007, 12:55

That's the problem. Once my eyes start rolling, they can be hard to stop. :D
