A MID is a portable device similar to an Ultra Mobile PC,PDA, or a Tablet PC.
But all MID's have 2 to 5.8 inch displays,and often run a flavor of embedded Linux with an simplified UI only.
Only three popular Intel-based MID's with dual-core technology use Windows XP or Vista as an option to it's lineup.
MID's are more low-end but not lacking.
Internet,GPS,Messaging, and basic Media features like a Personal Media Player are their high selling points.

Most MID's have RAM under 1 gig(and often under 512mb even),2 to 6 hour battery life,and use memory cards for expansion.
MID's are often mistaken for UMPC's,as they are very similar.
But remembering UMPC's use Windows and offer bigger screen space is a given

MID is a name coined by Intel for it's small and portable internet-powered Personal Media Players. Most MID's are similar to GPS systems in that they are small and tablet shaped,while others have flip or slide out QWERTY keyboards.
Nokia has it's own line of MID's called the Nokia Internet Tablets.
The 770 was their first MID to the masses.
Sony at the same time released it's Mylo device the Com 1,which was more of a Skype phone than a MID.
It followed up later with the Com 2 with more features,bigger screen,and more MID-like offerings.
