Men's fashion has become increasingly popular of over recent years, and many men are known to be extremely selective when it comes to selecting which clothes to buy, particularly when it concerns which designer name to choose from. Many men's fashion designers tend to have signature looks, which can distinguish them from other designers - something which men can and do look out for. However, of all the designers out there, which are the biggest of all menswear designers?
It would be a sin not to begin with one of the longest-serving of men's fashion designers, in Giorgio Armani. His brand has become a household name and in turn, become synonymous with menswear, with signature lines and fragrances that have stood the test of time, yet the Armani name remains as prominent in the fashion industry as ever.
Another stalwart of men's fashion is Ralph Lauren. The US-based label originally targeted out in the 1970's with targeted luxury lines for the Polo and Yatching sports. Even today, having diversified into "official" formal and premium casual wear, Ralph Lauren is one of the world's largest names in men's fashion, and also produces the award-winning Polo range of fragrances.
There are also some notable British designers that have dominated the landscape of the fashion world for decades. Among them are Sir Paul Smith (who was Knighted for his lifelong services to fashion), who is known for producing classic suits with a modern cut, formal menswear lines and in recent years, even fragrances. Another major British menswear designer is Vivienne Westwood, who even helped define the punk era - Westwood styled the Sex Pistols before many of the Punk movement considered wearing chains and ripped clothes. Her lines are popular with many notable contemporary musicians such as Gwen Stefani, Karen O and Pink.
Other notable names in men's fashion include Jean Paul Gaultier, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Donatella Versace (the niece of the late Gianni Versace, who founded the Versace label), are other designers with globally recognisable brands and can be considered with other notable menswear designers, such as the late Alexander McQueen, Jeff Banks, Jasper Conran, Heidi Slimane and Jill Sander.
