Kerstin's problem

,

It's even happened to Moesring :eyes:

Moesring has now officially experienced the Kerstin problem. Those who don't know what it is should be ashamed of themselves. P:
In a nutshell, the "total visitors to your blog and photos" statistic has gone down by 200 hits within an hour.

As Moesring typed this, Moesring realised that it is possible that this was caused by deleting the redundant Sleepwalker photo album (which displayed that theme in Opera 9.50 and has been succeeded by Theme Samples). If this is what caused it, then is it ridiculous that my hits were taken away again. Does this mean that if Moesring deletes a blog post, Hitslink will suddenly forget that anyone visited it and subtract hits accordingly?

Suddenly Moesring has less incentive to delete anything if the theory is correct.

ImprovementsMik will be pleased

Awwww! How cute isn't that? I've gotten a problem named after ME! You've made my day Mooooooe!

Does this mean that if Moesring deletes a blog post, Hitslink will suddenly forget that anyone visited it and subtract hits accordingly?

That would be strange, wouldn't it? :sherlock:

Moesring 22. September 2008, 06:37

Maybe I should reword it to "issue" or "peculiarity". "Problem" has negative connotations. :D

K C N Martínez 22. September 2008, 06:49

I'm happy euther way! As long as it's named after me!

Moesring 22. September 2008, 06:51

So you'd be happy if I called it "Kerstin's fault"?

K C N Martínez 22. September 2008, 07:08

 NO! That's just evil. awww

r♡se 22. September 2008, 08:06

Can that be the reason? I didn't think Hitslink stored data that way...

Moesring 22. September 2008, 08:09

I wouldn't expect Hitslink to work like this either but it is the only thing I could think of. Of course, it could just be a coincidence that I deleted the album and, for some reason, I also lost hits.

Näsborre 22. September 2008, 08:17

Hitslink is inaccurate - the total number of visitors for this year is far larger than Opera's number for the entire time I've been here. I know that Opera deducts (or used to) visitors to photos and posts that have since been deleted.

Moesring 22. September 2008, 08:22

Upon closer inspection, it seems that mine was about right until now but that could be because I don't delete posts/albums often.

Furie 22. September 2008, 08:23

What she said. I've deleted several thousand visits in the past.

Näsborre 22. September 2008, 08:25

Well I think I got access to Hitslink after I'd had a blog already for a few months, and I think at the time I got it it was zero, and my Opera stats were not.

Attila 22. September 2008, 20:16

That's really weird, and not particularly logical if it works that way. I mean, people has still visited - even though what they visited isn't there anymore.

Furie 22. September 2008, 21:08

It's because each photo displays how many times it's been viewed. As that counter is a part of the photos they just add that result to the blog counter rather than extend the existing blog counter to cover albums as well. Well, that's the simplest explanation anyway.

I rooftop wonder if the people who write the software for hitslink etc. real know how thier own software works.

Moesring 24. September 2008, 05:15

I think Hitslink know how their system works, but there is a communication breakdown somewhere between Hitslink and My Opera.

:sst: I think your predictive text isn't working properly - unless you intended to write the word "rooftop". :D

Attila 24. September 2008, 05:18

I rooftop wonder too! :D

Furie 24. September 2008, 10:15

He meant sometimes but didn't hit the 4.

Moesring 24. September 2008, 10:38

I thought it was supposed to be "sometimes". :D

The original version of my comment said this but I imagined that it was 2 letters missing ("i" and "e"). I figured that missing 1 letter is possible but 2 was unlikely. :o:

Furie 24. September 2008, 11:20

Homer: Doh! Didn't notice that.
