Reflections of a Chronic Malcontent

Bad Thinking

Being the frightfully intelligent fellow that I am, I have decided to introduce something other than sappy self-absorbed poetry to this here blog. How else are you folk to learn anything without what you don't learn it here? Especially those of you who are dependent on American news and commentary, bless your malnourished, ignorant hearts. So those of you familiar with Moonvents, once so popular and now absent, may be pleased to know they will soon be back; but, for now, feast upon this the first of a new series called Moonlectures, submitted lovingly by yourn truly, Moontan the True. Or me, in other words.

But first, a cautionary note for you new readers: I don't give a hoot in hell for a man too damn dumb to figure out only one way to spell a word, and therefore I ain't all that concerned with spelling.

And now let us proceed to your edification, Moonbeams. To Wit ...

The Good Book tells us that "in the last days perilous times shall come." Things are just going to be all screwed up. Folks will call good things bad, and bad things good. Pedophilia might even become respectable. Infanticide, too. Maybe even group sex (although here I hasten to add I'm not all that certain about that one.) Anyhow, things in general will be all backwards. People won't be safe in the home or out of it. Men will act like women; women will act like men. People will mention God in speech but deny Him in their actions. And on and on and on ...

Sound familiar? I'm rather certain most of you will readily agree that we are there now, especially we of Western Civilization. And you Muslims out there who aren't busy hacking off heads will also agree, I'm sure.

Okay. So how did we get here? We didn't suddenly wake up one day in a world of shyte, Moonbeams. Nay! It was a slow progression to this mire in which we presently wallow. So how did it happen?

Bad thinking, folks. Bad thinking and nothing else.

Bad thinking necessarily precedes bad times. One cannot have a bad situation without first having had bad, or flawed, or wrong, thoughts about that situation.

Bad thinking, and nothing else. So the answer to our present dilemma first requires we correct our thinking about a given subject, whatever that subject might be. Criminology? Abortion? Drug policies? Anything ... . All that is required to correct current social deprivations is an examination of our presumptions about the issue.

Imagine a society of only 100 people. Social decay runs rampant. Nobody is safe. There is no social structure. It is illegal to be a virgin after the age of 7; it is legal to kill for the convenience of the killer. And a whole assortment of other nasties. You get the picture. Now ... how many of the 100 citizens of this society will admit to practicing bad thinking? Eh? How many people do YOU know who are strong enough emotionally to say "you know, I am just not thinking right on this issue"?

So there. I've provided you the answer to your problems, Moonbeams.

Work it out.

"Okay. So how did we get here? We didn't suddenly wake up one day in a world of shyte, Moonbeams. Nay! It was a slow progression to this mire in which we presently wallow."

so my friend i sense that you are pretty sure our collective destiny is pretty dire. is there no hope then of turning the tide?

just yesterday a man beat a six year old to death. that's a sign of bad thinking for sure.

but just for balance of our hearts i have to type this poem by mr. goethe.

treasure trove

through the forest idly,
as my steps i bent,
with a free and happy heart,
singing as i went.

cowering in the shade i
did a floweret spy,
bright as any star in heaven,
sweet as any eye.

down to pluck it stooping
thus to me it said,
"wherefore pluck me,
only to whither and fade?"

up with its roots i dug it
i bore it as it grew,
and in my garden-plot at home
i planted it anew.

all in a still and shady place,
beside my home so dear,
and now it thanks me for my pains,
and blossoms all the year.

so there... there is some good in the world.
but maybe not enough.

it was a no thinking,
bad or evil,
it was a no thinking of a mentally ill man...

which makes me wonder,
if bad thinking brought us where we are today,

are we all losing our minds?
or we just try to show our arrogant self to the max ?

see I always felt it was OK to dare,
to experiment,
to be part of the present,
but the measure of each and every one of the above should have stopped at the "logic line" which we unfortunately cross very often...
when humans are cloned ( or it is claimed they were) the line is crossed, and the Pandora's box has been opened ,
I fear it will be hard to be closed ever again! :frown:

Moontan the True 4. August 2009, 16:12

No, Art, I don't see anything getting better at all. You are right, sir, as usual.

ellini...hello, and welcome to MoonViews. while you are probably right about the mentally ill man, i'd bet you'd find bad thinking sane folk somewhere in his past who allowed him the freedom to kill, no doubt under the name of freedom of movement or cruel and unusual punishment for prior criminal activity, etc.

I couldn't agree more!
Loyal readers of mine know my thesis on punishent of a mentally ill killer,
he has to be evaluated and treated ,
people that allowed him to act a horrific act
in my personal opinion always,
have to be punished as well!

the social worker that closed the case and did not follow up,
the people that approved him to become responsible for the child,
the biological parents that cared less of where their kid was...

it is a chain and as I mentioned above,

Moon tan,
this is a subject that can go on for ever,
and the oprimistic side of me,
believes that
with conversation,
clear picture of the problem,
communication,will to fix the problem,
we might be able to make a difference !

even if we are in "the era of bad thinking".

ellinidata... is there any chance you and I can marry before the end of the year. Your pic makes me think of eternal love ...

Moontan the True 28. November 2009, 04:06

I've just returned from leaving the total stranger an entire box of Herseys, ellinidata.

I don't dare asking of what you "do"
however,
it is always great news to me when a man "still does it"

PS
ArtMan is far from clergyman Moon, for many of us on Opera ,he is "a mind tickler" with his very sinful stories and very "desirable" with his amazing cooking.

Moontan the True 28. November 2009, 04:31

ellinidata... what is a better clergyman that a 'mind tickler'? Art is therefore perfect!

Forget not daring, darling: dare, honey, dare.

hey, Artman... knock the dust off your goodbook and get down to some business here!

Have you ever been married Moon?

Moontan the True 28. November 2009, 14:17

Has Moon ever been married? Now THERE is a question for the ages, ellinidata. Let us not go there, m'dear.

Angeliki 28. November 2009, 19:31

 it is a deal then , we do not have to go there
As a widow from the age of 29, I only have wonderful memories and I am not planning to remarry... yes, this Greek "says never "

Melina Merkouri ( who i met in person before her passing away )

Moontan the True 28. November 2009, 22:25

How sad. I am sorry for you, ma'am. But I shall never retract my proposal! Never. :D

Not with that avatar you have, anyway. If you change it to a picture of some crotchety old hag, I may reconsider.
