This company has specialized in what they call a 'vook' in which they produce so-called rich reading experiences with text, videos, photos and the integration with social media which enables the reader to connect with other readers and share a reading experience.
Many readers believe in reading as a solitary experience. However, do you think this type of technology would help some of our non-readers in start reading?
This week there is a conference in Trondheim called EMTACL10 (Emerging Technologies in Academic Libraries) which I have followed briefly through Twitter, and there are some interesting trends unfolding among librarians who are interested in reaching students and educators in a different way. Vook was one of the products/ideas I have come across, but others include mobile technology interface, social media integration and other fascinating things which might point to a not too distant future.
