Standards of living

, , ,

Not complaining, but I'm thinking of printing this and keeping it in my pocket for all the "you must be really grateful for the opportunity of living in France" or "Singapore, isn't that some backwater in China?" type people we seem to keep meeting here... wink

Actually - you have to remember that this is from an ex-pat's point of view... I really, really don't believe the *average* person experiences more luxury and better accomodation in France than in the Netherlands, for example!

If you are relocated to France, you might get better perks as part of the incentive... the normal Dutch lifestyle wouldn't require perks like that. wink

Well, at least you're not in the shit-hole that the UK clearly is! lol

Why is the longevity of France 5??

Although I'm not surprise France score a miserable average of 5! LOL

Ye know, I wouldn't mind living in Hong Kong wink

Expats from what country made this? They surely don't like India! lol

India does well on luxuriousness though and "earn and save" whatever that is...

(I am assuming "15" means 15 points, not 15th position, as that fits with Singapore coming first.)

Very interesting...

It was a survey of a few thousand people, but like I said it does seem to be very subjective of the experiences of certain types of ex-pat.

Nevertheless, I wanted to show yet another case where people who actually have the experience have rated France totally the opposite way round to how many ignorant French think they stand in the world.

Not many ex-pats in Scandanavia, I suppose... wink

I heard that you get paid your old salary for years by the Danish government if you lose your job there!

Looks that I will become the oldest form this survey... wink

Longevity in France:
Everybody smokes and drinks (and then ends drunken with the car kissing a tree), that explains the low longevity....

MossMan Tuesday, December 2, 2008 1:01:46 PM

Certainly true about bad driving over here. I read some statistic about car crashes being the major cause of death for everyone under 40. And the smoking and drinking is true as well.

How is the non-smoking rule working out in France BTW? In NL there is a huge discussion on this topic because since july it is not allowed to smoke in bars and restaurants any more. Due to the credit crisis the turn -over of the bars and restaurants plummeted and of course this is the fault of the smoking-ban, so the bars and restaurants want to allow smoking again awww

Any thing similar in France on this topic?

There was a lot of blah-blah about it in January - but in fact since then I've not heard anything in the news or from friends and colleagues.

It used to be really horrible to drink a beer in a Gitanes-filled bar, but since we don't live in town any more we haven't been to pubs or restaurants much recently - so I don't know if it made a big difference or not. The last few times we went out for a drink or a meal was during the summer, so we were sitting outside.

One thing I definitely noticed was that the shopping centre near work doesn't stink of smoke any more - the cafés and lunch-restaurants used to smell and look like chimneys, now they seem a lot more pleasant yet just as full as before.
