W*Stock's games

, , , ,

I was just thinking that no-one had replied to one of my answers to a "W*Stock game" - and realised I could no longer find the darned thing to check!

This, coupled with the near-death of most of those games and the way the World's Longest Blog died out when she un-stickied it for a few weeks, made me realise I need to keep a list for myself and to promote it to anyone else passing by my blog as well!

I skipped out a couple of the sillier guessing games (sorry W*Stock) but here's the ones I want to keep visiting:

Oooh....revival of "Make a Story" - that's a good idea!

Where's "guess a number between one and ten" then. That was a classic! wink

I didn't notice any difference when we un-stickied it for a bit! Still the usual crew! In fact it got people a little more excited about it for a bit! bigsmile

I will continue my pointless one person campaign to try and ban copy and pasted multiple messages in there! bigsmile

I might put a link to this blog on my blog as well if you don't mind.

(PS. Still reckon you'd like to play the games on facebook as well. Okay - won't mention it ever again - promiiiiiiiiseee!!! bigsmile )

Just read your blog to W*stock. She says "BRING BACK I-SPY! That was a classic!!! Well I enjoyed it anyway. bigsmile "

(It is at this point that I have to admit I don't remember an I-Spy blog.)

She says "That's cos everyone pooh-poohed it!"

And she continues "101 Ways to Cheer Yourself Up will be returning soon for those that missed it!"

Oh goody! wink

"Yes, I have lost it working with children. knockout "

Suggestion: Why not make a "Mafia" game? Something like the French version of "Loup Garou" (Werewolf). It started as a forum based game anyway. But you need at least 8 active members to begin with.

lol

I saw the I-spy game, but I think that one died because W*Stock never answered the questions, akchewerlee! p

Mafia game... hmmm... will research that one.

Mafia was created in the spring of 1986 by Dimma Davidoff at the Psychological Department of Moscow State University , and the first players were playing in classrooms, dorms, and summer camps of Moscow University.[1] The game became popular in other Soviet colleges and schools and in the 1990s it began to be played in Europe (Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, England, Norway) and then the United States. Mafia is considered to be one of "the 50 most historically and culturally significant games published since 1800" by about.com.[2]

Sounds interesting. Actually, I've heard of games like this before (since I used to play D&D, I have friends who are avid gamers - computer games, party games, board games, role-playing games, etc. etc.) and I think it should be possible.

Perhaps I could even invite a couple of those old friends to come have a go.

I see "Ultimate Werewolf" combines the strategy bit of Mafia with the old children's favourite (we used to play it during birthday parties) Murder in the Dark.

I've heard of the live-action game Assasin as well:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassin_(game)

and my sister used to play a monthly version where you would spend one day running around the centre of town trying to find and hit your target with a water pistol. Actually, someone at work happened to mention that they regularly play it in Toulouse as well.

Here's an example of Mafia, let's see if we can figure out how it works. It would be a lot easier if someone who's played it before could guide us through a game...

The one about shooting water pistol sounds not really like Mafia. LOL
Mafia is more on logical thinking, discussion, betrayal...etc. But assasin seems like more of an action based game.

I was walking in town weeks ago and happen to see this shop which is specialized in boardgames and card-games. The salesperson told me that one of the popular game in their shop was "Loup Garou" which is that werewolf game. That shop itself is pretty interesting, and it sells a vast collection of boardgames and cardgames.

That's between Capitole and Compans, right? We've also been there before.

Linhellownurse Tuesday, July 1, 2008 4:20:50 PM

Yeah Yeah! Just realized they actually hold some board game tournaments! The latest one was in June, but I kinda missed it already...monkey
That's the one which is more rustic, the kinda shop that I dream of owning... There's also another one down the streets near that Japanese Sushi bar. But that one is too tiny, and doesn't feels cosy...

Only a couple more weeks for you to try it out...
