These politicians are wicked (very) - though not all of them. For over a decade they failed the Nigerian people who have had electricity for only an average of less than 5 years in 10 years but paid their electricity bills for 10 years. Yet, they are all over with their posters and empty promises of providing stable electricity et'al and cunningly looking for our votes. Allah Ya isa.

It is Sunday today 14th of March 2010 and the electricity problem in Nigeria has reached its climax. The problem of load shedding and rationing started in the year 2000 - about a decade now. How leaders are so shameful and selfish and have no regards for over 150 million people. May God .......

It became a well known story in Nigeria about 6000 Meg of electricity by December, 2009. The story started over two years ago and behold, December is few days away from today. Any improvement in power supply? Capital NO. As December is just around the corner, am sure there are now cooking a bull and dog story for us. Allah Ya isa.

Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has after two years of negotiation with government started an indefinite and all out strike until the government signs the agreement reached during the negotiations. Earlier ASUU NEC directed all branches to proceed with a two weeks total warning strike. The main contentious areas are funding, university autonomy, staff welfare etc. It appears there is a deadlock and government seems to be adamant. Government's nonchalant attitude to education sector has caused the nation a lot. Nigerian graduates are generally seen as half backed and not recognized internationally despite the abundant resources at the disposal of the country. In the meantime, the only thing that thrived in Nigeria is corruption which became the order of the day. Unless you are corrupt and enrich yourself illegally you do not have a say in Nigeria. What ASUU is simply saying is let's correct all the imbalances and the starting point is to fix the education sector. Please do not hesitate to give your comments on the issue.

Many Nigerians are (or forced) to celebrate 10 year anniversary of democracy with today declared as public holiday. I refused to enjoy the holiday and remained in the office up to this hour (5:30PM). What do I need to celebrate for? Many Nigerians simply celebrate because they enjoy celebrating life. On a serious note, why the celebration? Is democracy what we are going to eat? or use to cook food? or boil water?. It was at the inception of the civilians that the power situation in Nigeria worsens. After 10 years, the situation is even worse. Today we get electricity for less than ten hours a day. What a shame! To my knowledge, the effort to stabilise the situation (or as it seems)engulfed more financial resources than anything one can remember. So why celebrate? When you have to take your handset (mobile Phone) to commercial charges to charge at a fee. Fuel? You have to join endless queuing to buy etc.
A one point agenda (as against seven) - restore power - would have been the best option. We pray the 6000 Megawatt promised by December will come to reality. Wait a moment, isn't the power situation supposed to improve as we approach December 2009 or everything will just be alright on 1st December (or 31st December)? This is a food for thought for all. Happy celebration!!!!!!!!!!!

Some countries across the world will be marking Earth Hour 2009 by switching off lights for atleast an hour. This sounds funny to some of us in Nigeria. For the last 10 years we have had our lights off on the average 8 to 10 hours daily compulsorily by those in authority. What a record! If only the savings can be channeled to us
