I will agree with you on that one also, but I look at "friend" here on the OC a little bit different. I look at is as people who are interested in the art that they find on your page. People who are friendly to what it is your are writing, photographing or interested in doing here.

Now there are those "fellows" who ask for a friend approval with only a photo on their page of themselves and nothing else. These are always rejected, but those folks from around the world with kind thoughts and photos on their OC page usually get my approval.

This is why on my friends tab you will find inside the header the following:
Cool people in the OC, well maybe Now you ... most definitely super cool!

But, yes, Eva, I feel your thoughts strongly. This is something I should be more careful of also. Thanks for this post. I needed to read this.

Well said Eva! I keep on getting friend invitations and messages from people who I recall never meeting on comments or forums, and people who have just joined the community I usually just ignore them.

I have the same problem. I have no idea who they are or why they chose me. Sometimes the request are accompanied by some strange comments on my blog as der W has noticed recently. I glad you thought it weird too der W, because I had no idea how to respond. I declined the "add".

Cynthia is right.I am here in the O C because of the photos and blogs. I go to other sites for different things, music etc.

I think one way for people to make friends is to join an active group like 365 or Shoot & Tell and genuinely participate with the group. People will usually add you or will accept your adds after a while

P.S. I have just read cautionary tale of internet "friendship".The article said, a depressed woman announced her suicide online. Some of her 1082 Facebook "friends" debated her situation, but no one checked on her or contacted a relative or the emergency services. Next day someone sent a message to her mother, but it was too late !!! As the article concluded, for friendship more is not always better.

My status on facebook says: "Please join the Opera Community to make contact." I created it as an obligatory response to my friends asking me to join there. I accept no friends there, however, and post no comments or allow any comments. Hahahhaha ... YES! the OC rules!

What can happen in myo (oc) is that you communicate you in a friendly way a long time and well suddenly you get a friendrequest. But i thought we were friends.
in fb that wouldnot easily happen. Even longtime friends may get an error message: are you sure you know this person? To prevent misuse etc.
does anyone know if there is a limit to the amount of friends? In fb apparently there is. Not that i have.

And for this post, i see the clause "happy new year, everything is turning. " anyone who wants to comment, sees this, though may not notice it. Perfect slogan for a post like this!

It is. As for the 'new' http://my.opera.com/community page i donot really like the design. I am as said a opera mini user so i donot know what you are seeing when you are logged in. I have images put off and see just some contributions of big colored block without an alt text in it and then follows some comment on a photo or so. Sometimes it is a lot of text about an image i donot see. And donot know the name of or the description. It is not what i would expect.
the url suggests it is info or data of a community and i see only a part of what i actually am interested in and a lot of waste space.
what do you think, would it help if those new designers get the front page of the qu'uran and then a commentary on a part of it that is somewhere in the book? If they happen to be muslim it could be the bible.
i just wonder. They need different views.

Well... let's see. You are right, friendship is not just adding and adding people to say "Hey, look how many buddies I have in my list!!", and I agree with you.

I have read the comments that Cynthia wrote, and she said some things that are true here too: in many ways friendship in social networks are a little bit different. I try to take care when I add someone as "friend" or accept him/her. And sometimes, something closer to real friendships awakes after a little time.

Is a fact that I love knowing people from around the world. And as I told Anna yesterday, there's a group of people here in my.Opera and other networks who I admire a lot, and I consider them as friends. I know we can't speak face to face, watch the expressions and feel the voice to know the real facts of our friends. I also know that sometimes internet fakes some of those facts, and is a risk we take. But I think I have a need of relationship, like most of humans. And I try to trust in some things that shows part of how is people in real. You are part of that world, too. And feel so grateful for allowing me be around... even when I'm in the "other side of the world".

Otherwise, I consider myself not a good friend sometimes. I come late to know news, I can't be much time around, I can't be helpful when is needed the way I should be...
And to complete, I have problems to express things that live inside of me. I started joining to MyOpera in part for that reason: trying to be more communicative. But that causes that I share just crumbs of my myself, and maybe I'm selfish being like that.

But as I said before: thanks for allowing me be around, and try to give something better each day. And all people I have as friends here (you are one of those great people )

It may not be a blame to want to know you eva, pablo, even when not having a photo or blog yet. And to you/us it may seem easy to tell something about yourself, really in real life, how many people are real? Donot overestemate.
i a way your are like a rolemodel to people. It is said one chooses his or her friends. In this place that might be more true than anywhere else and noone wants to be without friends (except one i know, but that is understandable.)

Well, it happens, many people fakes itself. Maybe all of us do it in some way. And it's true also that thing: we all want friends, not being alone. We need friends.
