Yeah, splendid pictures, Leffe... Very beautiful frozen moments. I don't like winter much as you can remember  and I'm just returned from the place where the temperature is +15+18 C at the moment to my town where we are having a snowstorm now and -10 C... brrrrrrr To tell the truth I was rather distressed by all these weather changes... until I had a look at your pictures and they cried to me "Anna, winter can be beautiful and fabulous!!! Stop mourning, grab your cam and go-go-go outdoors and shoot-shoot-shoot!" Thank you, my dear snowy friend!

der Wandersmann 26. October 2009, 15:14

Anna 26. October 2009, 16:46

You are so right, dear Leffe! To overcome a half-year winter we should be armed with a good deal of optimism and mulled wine  wine

MrLeffe 26. October 2009, 17:44

Soon I will have my first taste of hot wine :D :D  wine

der Wandersmann 26. October 2009, 21:00

Ever?

Jacco Besseling 26. October 2009, 21:09

Looks like it was cold. I remember it was here in the Netherlands. Great pictures! :D

MrLeffe 26. October 2009, 21:14

dW I cant say ever hot wine at this time of the year is a kind of habit We call it Glögg

Finglofin Thank you it was biting cold.

der Wandersmann 27. October 2009, 04:06

Oh, yes! I've had something similar, though I can't say that it was glögg.

Anna 27. October 2009, 04:24

DW, cheers! wine
I've caught a bad cold as soon as I reached my town :irked: So my "favourite" drink these days is hot milk with butter and honey :yikes: :yuck: Anyway it helps me to avoid any medicines.

der Wandersmann 27. October 2009, 05:29

Ah ... mine was equal parts whiskey and honey, with a few drops of lemon juice. It's a wonderful cough medication.

Nowadays, though, I never seem to get sick, and being a diabetic, I think I would avoid the honey.

Anna 27. October 2009, 06:58

It happens to me very rare when I get sick, too. I guess the climate change is the cause for my present disease.

MrLeffe 27. October 2009, 08:00

dW that did sound really good I will try it. In you case honey is not so good. One can always say just in case of the ....
but not too often.

I got the vaccin for not getting ill the other day I will take
my hot drink as a painkiller:D :D :D

der Wandersmann 27. October 2009, 15:27

Hot apple cider, with spices (cloves, cinnamon, etc.) is good, too.

It is VERY good. If you care for it, a bit of sugar isn't bad in it. Honey will do ... it has a nice "sharp" quality that makes the taste of the cider much more fruity.

As I have discovered, being diabetic is not the end of sugars in one's diet. One must simply be careful with amounts and with timing ... one must have time to "burn it up" before going on to something else. I try to confine my sugars to morning or early afternoon. The thing is, that almost any vegetable matter has sugar-type carbohydrates in it ... the idea is to eat complex carbs, rather than simple ones, like sugars. "Unrefined" would perhaps be a better word.

And as an emergency measure, I have found a good stiff drink of whiskey to be most beneficial in lowering blood glucose quickly. It seems to act as an igniter, if I may use the word, and helps to burn up the simple carbs even though it's a simple carb itself. And it tastes good ... LOL.

MrLeffe 27. October 2009, 17:14

My husband is a diabetic too. A small amount from time till time is no danger but he is cutting out all bread potatoes rice pasta instead we do eat a lot of other vegetables and it goes fine.He is without injection of insulin so that is nice. Basicly we do eat a bit differently and it helps.

In the wiskey I do belive It is also nice to drink.

Olga 3. November 2009, 03:51
