I don't have any laptop, but I do use Opera in multiple locations : at home, at school (offline but taking my notes with me !) and at my girlfriend's, I was looking for a way to always have my bookmarks/notes/offline-mails on me, and fortunately this way does exist : Opera Usb !
You put it on an usb-key (or whatever, sd-card, compact flash, but something writable). It creates on its first launch a profile file called "default.ophome" (after 3 weeks of use, mine is about 20 mo, I do have bookmarks, offline imap mail, notes and chat accounts).
A running "Portable opera" will use temporary files on the system hard disks, and once you've closed it, it removes all these temporary files, keeping your settings in default.ophome.
I think there are three recommandations for using Opera USB :
- The first one and the main one is : do not plug-out your usb-key before Opera USB is totally closed and your usb key is unmounted : It will broke your default.ophome file and you'll lose all your opera data.
- Perform backups if you use bookmarks/notes/offline-mail-using-POP3 a lot
- Choose "empty cache on exit" in the options, it will make the default.ophome file lighter, and so make opera-usb's load and exit faster
You can find it on
http://opera-usb.com/operausben.htmOne year ago I re-discovered opera (the first time I used it was on a redhat linux a long time ago, when the ad-banner were still present)
Six monthes ago I re-discovered mail using opera M2
And now I discover OperaUSB
So, what's next ?
