The official Xinhua news agency says the latest deaths occurred in Chongqing municipality as well as in the southwestern provinces of Sichuan and Guizhou and the central province of Hubei. Chinese officials say the floods have forced 292-thousand people to relocate. Floods and landslides over the last week already have killed more than 120 people.
Flash floods on Monday damaged 16 reservoirs and destroyed nearly four thousand homes. Chinese officials say floods also caused damage to crops, telecommunications, electricity and water supplies. They say heavy rain is expected to continue this week in many areas already affected, raising the risk of more flooding.

Advocates of embryonic stem cell research believe it could aid in the treatment of diabetes, Alzheimer's disease and spinal cord injuries.
But President Bush, as well as many religious conservatives, say the research is immoral because it involves destroying a potential human life. President Bush limited federal funding in stem cell research in late 2001. He is expected promote recent advances in alternative stem cell research, including using ordinary skin cells from mice.

Last July, North Korea sparked international outrage when it test-fired missiles, including a long-range rocket. Pyongyang also conducted its first known nuclear test in October.
Japan has been especially wary of North Korean missile launches since 1998, when a long-range rocket passed directly over Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean. Short-range missiles are not capable of reaching Japan from North Korea.
