Meeting Tweeps from Nagpur
Sunday, May 2, 2010 7:35:26 AM
It all began with a "Nagpur hashtag" search on Twitter and I was awed by the number of Tweeps actively tagging the city in their tweets. I followed the thread a bit further and chanced upon #NGPmeet.
Thanks to MH31 and the enthusiastic bunch of organizers who put together the 1st Tweet-up in Nagpur.
I was not sure what to expect from this meetup, was just following a couple of them before meeting. My good friend from Shivaji Abhijeet Deshpande (who also works with Tvider btw) agreed to come along n give me company.
We all began with individual introductions and it was good to know that there was a mix of people from diverse backgrounds. While everyone spoke abt themselves and why they r on twitter - none of us were expecting this basic concept to lead into a hot debate topic. While one guy felt "no. of followers on twt = no. of fans on fb" - he was immediately greeted with reactions from passionate users on the lines of how-on-earth-can-u-think-like-this!!!
Well, even I could not resist when someone commented on Indian publications' style of reporting tech stories. As someone who religiously tracks most tech stories in India (& even the tech shows on TV) it saddened me to hear unkind comments such as 'breaking stories late' and 'doing a copy paste'.
Lots of other topics happened.... yes we discussed 'Browsers' too
And how can I miss the young 'MAD' girls
- they volunteer with Make a Difference Organization and gave us a quick intro abt what they do, teaching English to the unprivileged students and their upcoming volunteer recruitment initiative. I hope the tweeps who attended this will be able to raise some awareness about the MAD cause and increase volunteers too. Finally there was coffee... signing messages... photographs aaaannndddd 'The Talented Tweeps' - who did not hesitate to live-the-moment
The highlight performances were clearly from the 3 stars
below:
@sukhada1989 mesmerized us with her song "Nayi nahi yeh baaten" n got every1 in the groove
@rohneet mimicked commentators and famous cricket players from India & Pakistanand
@tusharvjoshi recited a hilarious Marathi poem - See his video here - and his pic hereTo follow updates on the tweet-up - search for #NGPmeet

Cheers

What I want is respect and dignity , we have been torch bearers of civilizations since ages ,we just need to untangle and fly.
I wanted to speak in length about my point of view when I came personally to talk to you ,unfortunately I couldnot get enough time.
It is really heart wrenching that new and excellent startups like redbus , eko , Notion Ink Adam get covered in these technical blogs first instead of their neighbourhood newspapers .
I hope u understand , nothing personal , cheers
