About me

People used to say I walked into a room like a queen. I give the credit to my mother. She was raised by her great-grandmother and grandmother with very old-fashioned ideals. As a result I was trained to be an 80's Lady. Not 1980, but 1880.
"I expect you to behave like a lady in church today." "Ladies don't whistle." Pull your skirt down and sit like a lady!" Ladies don't cross their legs; they cross their ankles and tuck their feet slightly back under the chair." " Hold your head up and walk like a lady"
That's why it is so hard for me to bear when I have to use my cane. When the weather changes or when I've overdone it, or when the Lupus flairs up I shuffle along with a cane. That kills my vanity. People always have something sympathetic to say or ask. That kills my pride. Ahh, Pride and Vanity.
One day in Wal-Mart I was sitting on the bench by the door while the twins roamed the store. A woman sat down beside me. She had lovely, soft silver curls and light rose lipstick. She wore a floral skirt and sat lightly perched on the bench with her ankles crossed and slightly tucked under. Her delicate, manicured hands rested on the head of a glowing mahogany cane. She was not an object of pity. She was a lady.
Now I see something to attain, something to strive for. Scepter or cane

My work

Agatha Christi said in her Autobiography, The creative urge can come out in any form: in embroidery, in the cooking of interesting dishes, in painting, drawing and sculpture, in composing music, as well as in writing books and stories. The only difference is that you can be a great deal more grand about some of these thing than others." I heartily concur with this statement. It seems I have spent my whole life searching for outlets for my creative urge. I took art classes in High School; I took up embroidery and crochet in my teenage years. When my best friend enrolled in college while in her 30s I either helped write or wrote entirely her school papers. I was a flute player for 9 years. These things define me more than anything else. I cannot put into words the fulfillment that each of these things has given me.
Ive been a yellow pages ad proofer for about 10 years and have been able to satisfy my creative urge to a small extent in my work. I am responsible, of course, for the spelling and grammar but also in a small way for layout and the quality of the artwork. When my graphic artists' creative juices are flowing there is something wonderful that happens, even a box with words can be made beautiful and I get to look at art all day.
