Part 2: teh plan, teh autos, teh mistake
Wednesday, 6. February 2008, 06:40:53
Before I start this blog I wanna explain one fact, that I have a little history at the track. I've done tsd rallies, auto crosses, auto-X, 1 drift event and a few track days. What I am looking to do new in 2008 is... I want to run a full season. Simple as it sounds with my outrageously small budget and lack of understanding what goes on behind the sinces...this will be interesting...
The car I've chosen is a volvo 242 built for SCCA ITB, it was built to be powered by a 120 horse power stock four cylinder boring motor, so after much thought me and my team have fitted a straight 6 volvo power plant in this small racing box.
I chose volvos because when most people think of volvos, racing dosent come to mind but safe square cars do, and safety is a great thing to have well trying not to die. Volvos are to the swedish as bmw is to germans. Both great cars but what people sometimes forget is... Through the 80's volvos were faster then teh bmw's and also out handled them! It also dosent hurt that I have been tuning these cars for the last 5 years with great successes.
The car is equipped with a custom coil-over suspension and 12 point roll cage. Removing all excess sheet metal from the body was a opportunity to lose the excess weight that it hides above teh center of gravity, Plus race cars don't need any kinda of extras, in any fashion...
Part three will explain my mistake and problem what will mess this season up! ...hello rally america!
