Two rivers were running side by side some of the younger drops of water in one river and some of the younger in the other were shouting and insulting each other for being lesser than their river. “Your river is narrower than ours” they yelled while the others “yours is so big it has no control it’s a clumsy giant” and so it went on.
Soon the older drops who had been listening to these increasingly vitriolic exchanges informed the younger drops to be silent and watch the path the two rivers were taking.
Both were heading to a joining where for a while they would flow as one and then return to the Ocean. The younger drops at that moment realised the true nature of things, neither river was lesser or greater than the other both were separate on one level and yet one on all others.

Chapter 4
The Tao is empty
When utilized, it is not filled up
So deep! It seems to be the source of all things
It blunts the sharpness
Unravels the knots
Dims the glare
Mixes the dusts
So indistinct! It seems to exist
I do not know whose offspring it is
Its image is the predecessor of God

Hi, Becca. :)
Yes, sometimes we forget that we are not separate from others. Shouting at one another does not help us. Insulting does not help. But our words of wisdom, patience, understanding, and compassion can help. They can help to create a calm, soothing ebb and flow, much as one might find at the beach (an image inspired by the beautiful picture at the end of your entry).
Much more than mere wind traveling over vocal chords, our words have tremendous power. Each one is, I think, like a mantra; each one echoes down, down through the halls of time, forming, shaping the future, the present, and (to some extent) the past.
Words are our power of direct manifestation. They can kill or enliven, gladden or sadden. They can heal or hurt, mend or maim. They can make situations difficult or easy. Inspiring words build up; discouraging words tear down.
I am reminded of a story.... Once, some football players from the Dallas Cowboys gave a motivational talk at a correctional institute for youths. After the talk was over, one football player said to another, "I sure turned out just like Daddy said I would." An inmate, overhearing this, said to them, "I also turned out... just like Daddy said I would."
