Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

, , ,

For those of you who I didn't manage to tell... I will be spending the next six month on the other side of the world. First for studying (or something like that) in Australia and afterwards I will be traveling through New Zealand.
My trip started last Sunday. Since I didn't feel like doing the whole flight in one day I decided to stay in Kuala Lumpur for a 2 day stop-over. I kinda like Aisa and haven't gotten to Malaysia just yet. KL has quite a lot to offer - from fake everything to "lady masaaaage", shischa and lunge cancer - this city is so full of fumes that the sky seems cloudy all the time. Check the images below and you'll get the idea. If the fumes don't do the trick, the traffic will. Traffic lights are totally overrated... at least for Malaysians - ah yes - and if you ever happen to see a traffic light turn green for pedestrians (not that it would matter), please let me know... must be once every other hour or so.
My guide for this town was the brand new 1st edition of the "Lonely Planet - Kuala Lumpur Melaka & Penang" which just came out last month. The tips in it are good as always - but they must have gotten the timeframe wrong. What was suggested for a three day stay in KL I managed to do in a single day. The maps are "ok" since they don't tell you which streets are accessable for pedestrians and which are not. Even though you could see the entire city just by walking from Central KL to Cinatown, Little India a.s.o. (and the maps show you the way) you might get to the point where you just don't know how to cross the giant high-way or river in front of you. Happend to my very often. But that said. You may consider taking a cap anyway. The sidewalks are really small (if they exist at all) and walking along the busy street in a city that already smells like fumes isn't that pleasant anyhow. Getting around by cap is cheap, taking the monorail is even cheaper.
That's it for now. Below is a sneak peak of the pictures I took here in KL.

The Petronas Towers - Home of Petronas Oil company.

Batu Caves - 272 Steps to the entrance.

Monkeys living in the Batu Caves - Don't get to close, they might bite.

The KL Tower - A much better view then from the Petronas Sky Bridge - and you don't have to wait in line. What you see aren't clouds... :frown:

Thanks for reading.
