Random Randomness

, , , ,

[/img]• I normally post my Random Randomness on my Karen's Chronicles page, but I decided to do it on my Opera blog this time. I've totally been neglecting my other page. I just don't get as much out of it as this one. wink

• My son went to the winter formal dance for his school tonight. He wore black slacks, a black shirt, black tie, and black shoes. (Johnny Cash style!) He looked SO incredibly handsome! I'm just so proud...and sad. After he and his date took off to head to the dance, I sat on the couch and cried. This might seem stupid to those of you who don't have kids...and maybe even some who do. I'm just so close to my son. We're inseparable. I guess seeing him all grown up and leaving with his girlfriend really hit me where it hurts. It was like a big bitch-slap in the face saying, "He's not your baby anymore! You are no longer the main woman in his life!" cry I'm teary eyed just thinking about it. I love my kids so much...to know that my son will be leaving home in about two years just kills me! I feel as though someone is severing my heart with a jagged piece of glass or something.

• On a happier note - as I was sitting on the couch bawling, my daughter who is 9 came over to me and gave me a big hug. She's always doing whatever she can to make everyone happy and content. I have NO idea where she gets that! right She said, "Don't worry, Mom. I'll still be here for a long time!" I smiled, hugged her, and said, "Thank you so much, Sunny! I know you've still got a few years, but there's going to come a time when you'll be leaving me too, and it will kill me just as much as your brother leaving is killing me!" She looked at me with eyes that said, "Aww...I'm sorry." sad I didn't want it to be like a guilt trip, so I said, "But that's okay, because you'll always be my baby no matter what." smile I'm so lucky to have my kids. I love them both more than I can begin to express. I treasure each and every moment I have with them. love

• Okay - I'll stop with the sappiness now. I just had to vent that. I feel better now. bigsmile

• Lonnie took me to Starbucks a little while ago. I got my usual: Venti, Quad, Iced Mocha w/ soy milk. It was way too sweet...it made me really nauseated. yuck

• We're going to go shopping tomorrow. I think we're going to Lloyd Center. party I friggin' love that place! I wish someone would take me there, hand me about $10,000 and say, "Have fun!" Oh man...that would seriously make me happy! But then, who wouldn't it make happy?! Hehe

• Lonnie said that he already got my Christmas present. bigeyes I was kinda pissy when he told me. Like I told him, "You know I'm a peeker! Why did you tell me if you aren't going to give it to me 'til the 25th?!" Please don't get me wrong - I really appreciate him getting me something. He normally doesn't. So yeah - that part made me go, "Awww o "...but then I thought about it and was like, "Goddamn it. Now I have to sneak around trying to find it!" lol But then the thought hit me, "Wait a minute here. He hasn't left the house to go anywhere without me. It has to be something online!" So I asked him if it was. He said, "I'm not going to tell you." Psssht...rolleyes We all know that means, "Yes...yes, it is!" So now I'm waiting until he does leave the house so I can snoop around his computer! devil I am determined to figure it out before the 25th. I see this as a challenge! ninja

• I have zero money of my own. Yeah - zero. That means that I will be like the cheap-ass who never gets anybody anything for Christmas. sad It's really not fair. I don't want to have to ask for money. "Uh yeah, can you please give me money so I can buy you something?" Not exactly tactful, ya' know? I'll just make him something instead, I guess. I mean, what else can I do? And for you pervs like LC & Dennis, don't worry. He'll get plenty of XXX lovin'. rolleyes That's not exactly a department that's lacking. lol

• I still need to bake more cookies. I have all the stuff for it, I just need to do it. Maybe tomorrow if I have enough energy after shopping. If not, Monday. I gotta make cookies for all the people I missed the first time around. I've made some new friends since then, too, so I have to include them! Siran & his twin sister, Siray are on the list, Jose, Galadriel AKA Kimbers...there are a few others, too. I feel all shitty for forgetting some people the first time around, so I have to make up for it. At this rate, I will be making one batch of cookies every week for the rest of my life! lol Oh well, that's okay. It's more than worth it if it means having such awesome friends! heart

• I just asked Lonnie if he got me a Chihuahua. He said,"Um, no. I didn't get you a Chihuahua." Damn! down What a pisser!

• I'm going to lay off the Vicodin for a few days. I think I'm growing a tolerance to them. It's taking more of 'em to help, so I'm just going to suffer through the pain for a few days so I can get back to taking less. I don't want to damage my kidneys or anything.

• My feet are so cold! yikes

• I was supposed to call my Dad today, but spaced it out. Ooops! rolleyes

• I'm going to go upload the pictures of my son & his girlfriend now. Maybe I'll post a couple in another blog entry.

• By the way - I cannot believe you're still reading this. Seriously - all I ever do is babble! lol Thanks for taking the time...that's totally awesome of you! heart

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, December 17, 2007 4:39:54 AM

Ok then... Here goes. everyone should have there own money. In staunch muslim households, a woman usually doesn't work. However, it is a Sunnaht (religious tradition?) for a husband to give an allowance to his wife (or wives as the case may be) for her own use. This allowance is separate from the household budget.
In terms of the laws in the Quran, a man's property is his own and a women's property is her own. A man is responsible for the care and maintenance of the household budget and his wife takes case of the home while he is at work.
In many modern muslim homes the wife is also working. Her salary is, however, her own and her husband has no rights to it. Only in this case where a woman is working does she not receive an allowance.
Having said this I'd like to point out that americas favourite 'goddess' Oprah has repeatedly warned her viewers that women must not rely on men for financial support. Many women around the world end up in desperate situations as a result of this. Oprah has also pointed out that the 'it won't happen to me' belief is usually the first warning sign that a woman is already in trouble.
I initially said nothing since this is a matter of opinion and many christians believe that this is an attack on the christian ethos that dictates that a woman should become 'one' with her husband and thus is not entitled to her own property beyond that which her husband grants her.
Karen, in your blog post you commented that you have no money of your own. I believe this to be a very unhealthy situation and I would urge you to either arrange your own income or request an allowance from your fiancé. It is your right, afforded by God, to have financial freedom.
If I have miss read the situation then I apologise, but remember, YOU DID ASK!! troll

KarenNerak Monday, December 17, 2007 3:32:15 PM

I greatly appreciate you finally saying what was on your mind! Man, that was like pulling teeth! left

Don't worry - I'm not offended in the least bit. smile We recently went through an issue with our bank which caused some major financial problems. I had money prior to that event happening - spent it on this & that. We're in the process right now of paying off our debts, and once we're caught up, both he and I will have money of 'our own' to work with. wink I suppose I should have clarified why I don't have money at this time.

By the way - I cannot stand Oprah. I do not watch her show, nor do I take her advice on anything. The woman is a money/power hungry bitch! down

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, December 17, 2007 4:13:48 PM

zip.on that Oprah comment. *nods knowingly*

Rickcwbywz Monday, December 17, 2007 4:42:06 PM

Karen, Just last night we were watching the little ones for our daughter while she went to a business engagement. It was getting late and my started to wonder if we should call to make sure she is alright. My daughter is 27. You never get over them being your kids.
And glue, I haven't seen my pay check in 20 years. In America it is "What's mine is hers, and what's hers is hers."

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, December 17, 2007 5:36:25 PM

That's not unique to america. That's more about modern culture. different people live differently. Some of my Zulu friends are planning to get married. However, before he can marry his beloved, he must first say lobola of 25 cows to her parents. One cow cost ZAR3500 so that makes a total of ZAR87500 that he has to pay. His parents may not help him to pay this. It has to be paid from his own money. For any young man this must be a daunting prospect. As a muslim, he I marry again I must pay a mehr to my bride. That mehr is based on certain guidelines but is basicly agreed upon between bride and groom. There are many reasons for seperation of wealth. a man and woman must each pay there own zakaat (charity similar in essence to social security) it would be very difficult to calculate zakaat if there was no clear difference between his and hers.

JDjrd2498 Monday, December 17, 2007 9:41:59 PM

Hey glue i can see what you are talking about, just yesterday i was watching the CBS morning news. They had segment that they were commenting on women, who take care of the homes all their lives and do not get involve in finances, so once the husband dies, then they go in to financial ruin, becasue they cannot take care of them. So I believe in what is mine is hers also. But it was to be right down the middle, we both are going to do the same amout of work as the other. Well what i meam by this is that, like house work, we will both do 50 percent of it. Now like finances, i believe she can work if she wants to, but once he have kids, then one of us should let go of our full time job. Maybe drop down to a part time, to take care of the kids. p I would noot mine droping down, or she wants to it is perfectly fine. bigsmile

Mad Scientistqlue Monday, December 17, 2007 10:07:26 PM

I saw an item once about one woman who didn't even know how open a bank account or check a balance or even draw money. That's less commen than it used to be but it still happens. fortunatly children have there own accounts today so they grow up with some idea about money. The biggest crime is credit. credit eats your money and destroys your wealth. many ' wealthy' men die and leave there wives in debt because they had on real wealth but only an illusion of wealth.
I hear that in america the banks post credit cards to prospective clients to encourage debt.
I'm not sure but I think that is illegal with south africa's new credit laws. (I'm not I lawyer so I can't say for sure. )

JDjrd2498 Tuesday, December 18, 2007 12:09:26 AM

Well by credit do you mean like debt you get from a credit card. Becasue were credit is a score you get on how much of a risk you are. Like if you have a low credit score then you are more likely not be able to pay your payments, or have a bad history of debt. Were if you have a high credit rate, you are more likely be able to pay of you debt quicker, and more likely to not miss any payments. You sually people with higher credit score are more able to get cheaper interest rates. p People most people are pretty dumb especially teenagers, they fall for credit cards way to easily. p They never check the interest rate on it, or the APR on it. So they go into debt. sad But credit card are not all bad, without it, it is basically impossible to increase your credit score. Just need to make sure to pay the amout off at the end of the month, and not buy anything big like a new car with it. p

Mad Scientistqlue Tuesday, December 18, 2007 7:58:15 AM

lol you say that so casually as if even a monkey can do it! have you noticed that almost no country exists that doesn't have debt? I'm talking on government level here where clever people with big paychecks don't seem to be able to balance the books. How do you expect to eliminate inflation without first eliminating debt?

JDjrd2498 Tuesday, December 18, 2007 10:01:40 PM

Well i belive we will not eliminiate inflation any time soone. Just look at this way, We can all agree that the strongest government, well well rounded is the U.S. But we are in debt well over 14 trillion dollars, and is increasing because of the european union. Inflation cannot never be elimninating because, of the business cycle flunctiating all the time. See if we have a disaster, like another hurrican that right thier will cause inflation, so thie is no way to eliminate it. See i belive that one day we wil reach a Utopian society, but not any time soon, or even in our lifespans. See like debt cannot be eliminating either. Just look at Donald trump, his daughters tells a story about her dad one time walking out side of the tromp tower, and telling her that a homeless guy is richer then him. That homeless guy is richer becasue donald trump is in debt 15 billion dollars in debt. The reason he is in debt so much, because if investments, and having his money circulating so much. But the only way the rich become rich, is how they are bale to play with their money. Well what i mean by this is that they are able to go in debt, but now how much they can afford, and only getting good debt, like investments. smile

KarenNerak Tuesday, December 18, 2007 10:23:12 PM

(This is way too deep for me. My head already hurts too much as it is. bigeyes )

JDjrd2498 Tuesday, December 18, 2007 10:38:59 PM

Yep, i should really stop making a comments like that above, i usually tend to loose people. p

KarenNerak Tuesday, December 18, 2007 10:40:18 PM

Nooooooooo! Please don't stop, Jose! I'm not lost - just feeling icky, so I can't concentrate on stuff as well right now. Seriously, though...please don't stop being you! I really enjoy your comments very much! heart

JDjrd2498 Tuesday, December 18, 2007 10:54:16 PM

Well, now i just have to stop getting into things too much. What I mean by this is acting like a smarty pants, were I am not. The thing is i have to start acting more like my age. And not get to political, the girls don't really like that, sad .

Jenngflladydeath Tuesday, December 18, 2007 11:01:10 PM

Hilliary does lol bigsmile
Some girls do to a depth, just not REALLY deep bigsmile But it is still interesting to read when were in that mood bigsmile

KarenNerak Tuesday, December 18, 2007 11:14:50 PM

lol Yeah - Hillary loves that! yes

I personally hate politics. I have NO idea who I'm going to vote for & won't know until the last minute. I never watch the news or anything, so I don't know anything at all about any of the candidates.

This might sound fucked up, but oh well - one thing I know for certain is that whomever I do end up voting for will NOT be Republican! Those bastards have fucked up the country enough as it is. It's about time a Democrat or some other party gets in there and does their best to repair the damage that's been done.

Like I said, though, I really don't know anything about politics, so I guess I shouldn't be so judgmental about Republicans. Oh well, though...I guarantee my vote will not be for a Republican...which will probably piss Charlie off since he's such a big Ron Paul supporter. The guy seems like an alright guy and everything, but the mere fact that he's Republican is enough for me to say, "Um, I think not!"

Okay...I'm going to stop rambling now. The Vicodin is kicking in, so that's why I'm getting so damned chatty. rolleyes At least it's helping my headache a little bit! Yay! party

Jenngflladydeath Tuesday, December 18, 2007 11:58:30 PM

Yay!!! Glad it helped a bit..

It doesn't SUCK ..i dont vote rolleyes never have..and me rep. LOL

KarenNerak Wednesday, December 19, 2007 12:01:59 AM

I have always voted...although I honestly do not think it makes a difference. At one time I did - when I was 18...but especially since the Gore/Bush election, I am totally convinced that our votes mean zilch. I think that whomever THE MAN wants in office will be in office.

I realize that I'm coming off as some sort of conspiracy theory nimrod, but oh well. right I seriously think our country is majorly fucked up.

Jenngflladydeath Wednesday, December 19, 2007 12:05:57 AM

That I will agree with..ROFLMAO

Your not comming off like that at all ...and i am just like u on the voting...shrug

JDjrd2498 Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:26:46 AM

Yeah, i am not the only one that is not voting for a republican. I am a right moderate, but I believe we need change. But anyway give it eight years from now, and we will be wanting a republican, after the democrats screws up. Then sixteen years from now we would want a democrat again, then they will screw up. And it keep going and going. Oh well, their is nothing we can really do about. If it was up to me, i would change the government, and make a rock government. Do you all know what i am talking about, having guitars at every corner, people playing rock every-were. It would be awesome, i thing Karen likes Metal so hey Metal it is also. p

KarenNerak Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:31:09 AM

headbang A Metalized government would rule! yes

I know what you're saying, Jose, but I will never be saying that I want a Republican in office. I've just never agreed with the way they do stuff. I guess I'm too liberal for it...although I'm not overly liberal like some people. smile

Bottom line: To each their own. up

JDjrd2498 Wednesday, December 19, 2007 2:31:46 AM

Cool, i like the sound of that. bigsmile
