National Day of Slayer

Who is Slayer

Slayer is a band from California. Their music has come to epitomize Speed Metal music in the latter half of the 20th century. Their 1986 album, "Reign in Blood" is one of the single most influential metal albums of all time, typified by the modern classic "Angel of Death".

How to Celebrate

beer Listen to Slayer at full blast in your car.
beer Listen to Slayer at full blast in your home.
beer Listen to Slayer at full blast at your place of employment.
beer Listen to Slayer at full blast in any public place you prefer.

DO NOT use headphones! The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren't just about celebrating; they're about forcing it upon non-participants!

Taking Participation to a Problematic Level

beer Stage a "Slay-out." Don't go to work. Listen to Slayer.
beer Have a huge block party that clogs up a street in your neighborhood. Blast Slayer albums all evening. Get police cruisers and helicopters on the scene. Finish with a full-scale riot.
beer Spray paint Slayer logos on churches, synagogues, or cemeteries.
beer Play Slayer covers with your own band (since 99% of your riffs are stolen from Slayer anyway).
beer Kill the neighbor's dog and blame it on Slayer.

left Okay, maybe not...but still.

Alexodius PrimeAleksOD Monday, June 6, 2011 8:45:19 PM

On the other hand, after seeing that one of their albums is called "Christ Illusion" I think I'll pass... right

KarenNerak Monday, June 6, 2011 8:51:33 PM

The vast majority of their songs are about serial killers and that type of thing. They're not a Satanic band - contrary to the believe of the ignorant.

My point is that when it comes to Slayer, you cannot take the words at face value. They are generally referring to people and the way people can be totally effed up.

I fully understand, though. To each their own. up

KarenNerak Monday, June 6, 2011 8:52:13 PM

P.S.
That's not one of their better albums, anyway. lol

Alexodius PrimeAleksOD Monday, June 6, 2011 9:01:06 PM

Well, I am not saying they are Satanic. I feel that those bands who explicitly state they are Satanic actually have no idea what Satanic really means, they are more like atheists bashing believers.

Sigh... fine, what are their best albums? I may give it a try...

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 7, 2011 12:00:44 AM

If I were you, Aleks, I would give "Seasons In The Abyss" a try. Not my favorite, but a good starter album. lol

of course not, Conor! bigsmile

MConor Tuesday, June 7, 2011 1:09:42 AM

Season in The Abyss is a great album. But, if you want a taste, just listening to Raining Blood.

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 7, 2011 1:29:20 AM

I concur, Conor...but for a first-time listener, Seasons is a bit more mellow.

I was suggesting just listening to the song. Once you've listening to it, you're pretty much guaranteed to know whether you like Slayer or not p

Alexodius PrimeAleksOD Tuesday, June 7, 2011 1:23:24 PM

The problem with songs that I have is that I rarely listen to words. I like long melodious tunes in some epic metal, and Slayer does have nice guitar play in it, but the words are just too numerous/fast sad

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 7, 2011 7:08:30 PM

Understandable, Aleks. smile It's simply not for everyone!

Blasphemy. Slayer is for everyone, and it should be made mandatory.

KarenNerak Tuesday, June 7, 2011 8:23:30 PM

lol Mandatory Suicide? bigsmile (Slayer song...duh)

I agree that it SHOULD be for everyone, but I totally understand that some people simply don't have an ear for it. No sweat. I'd rather them be honest about it than become posers who claim to like Slayer and then can't even name two Slayer songs. irked

MConor Tuesday, June 7, 2011 8:41:00 PM

Raining Blood, War Ensemble, Skeletons of Society bigsmile Do I pass?

Uncle MickMickeyjoe-Irl Tuesday, June 7, 2011 11:26:20 PM

I guess I was too busy listening to Seasick Steve's new album. whistle
