I was talking with Sarah on her blog earlier. I mentioned that I never read unless it's the Bible & a couple other exceptions. Sarah then mentioned that she should read her Bible more. My advice to her was to find a Bible that she really loves. Like I said to her - if the Bible is all stiff and icky looking, you'll be less apt to want to read it.
That's why I recently (about 3-4 months ago) bought a new Bible. I had grown tired of my old one, so I wasn't reading it like I should've been. Well, ever since I bought this new Bible a few months ago, I have no problems being motivated to read it. The book is so flippin' cool that I really love reading it!
I took some pictures of my Bible. I want to show you what it looks like.
Here is the front cover of it. It's made of leather, but this picture is horrible, so it's hard to tell. It's a hot pink color, light blue, and dark brown.
Here's a shot of the silver gilding along the pages...
They also have quizzes throughout the Bible. They're really cool & quite informative.
There are a lot of graphics in my Bible. Here's one example which is a short story pertaining to what can be found in the text of the Bible in the same area...
Another feature of my Bible are the sections called "Daily Devos" ...which, as the name suggests, are daily devotionals...
Lastly, here is an example of what the text & layout looks like on a regular page. The makers of the Bible didn't fail to make it very pleasing to the eye. ...
The thing about my Bible is that it's intended for teenage girls. I've not been a Christian for very long, though, so all the little quizzes and stories really help me to understand what's being said in the text of the Bible.
Another thing that I love about my Bible is that it's the New Century Version. It's SO easy to read...once I get started, I find myself not wanting to put it down! Instead of the Bible feeling like a reference book, it now feels more like an actual story that's easy to read. I hate reading, so finding books that are easy to read is just fine with me!
I just downloaded RocketDock, and I absolutely love it! It's made my desktop even more neat and tidy...and I freakin' love neat & tidy!
"RocketDock is a smoothly animated, alpha blended application launcher. It provides a nice clean interface to drop shortcuts on for easy access and organization. With each item completely customizable there is no end to what you can add and launch from the dock.
Now with added Taskbar support your minimized windows can appear as icons on the dock. This allows for better productivity and accessibility."
Here's a little video that I nabbed from the site which explains it & how it works...etc.:
The program is super easy to install & use. Even those of you who aren't as computer literate should be able to use it with no problems. It's very self explanatory. They even have lots of different icon themes that come with the program. Very cool...and here is a site where you can download even more themes!
If you are interested in getting RocketDock for yourself, you can either CLICK HERE, or you can head over to their site & download it there.
I watched a show on A&E tonight called "Obsessed." It deals with people suffering from extreme anxiety disorders, including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, and Hoarding. Considering I have three of the four disorders, I figured it was a must for me to watch. (I'm not a hoarder.) I must say, the show was really well done and quite touching. I found myself almost tearing up because I could relate to these people so well. Living with this stuff is no walk in the park.
It's not an easy thing to publicly announce that you have these issues. People who don't have them don't get it and have the attitude, "Just stop it!" If only it were that easy. Man, life would be so much better for so many - including me. The two that REALLY have a firm hold on me are Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder. If not for the Klonopin I'm prescribed and Lonnie, I'd probably never leave my house. Actually, I know I wouldn't as I have Agoraphobia, too. I never claimed to be sane!
Anyway, if anyone else out there suffers from this sort of thing, I really recommend this show. If for no other reason than you won't feel so alone. Living in a world where very few people in the grand scheme of things have these issues is a very, very lonely feeling. Maybe watching this show and seeing that you're not alone will help. Although this week didn't really touch on my main issues (other than the germ thing), it still helped. I'm not sure why, but it did.
I think "Obsessed" will be on once a week on A&E, so catch it if this is of any interest to you!
There's a new movie coming out in November called "Who Will Survive 2012". I will be the first in line to see it. As some of you know, I've been spouting off about the year 2012 for a long time now. It's about time the word is getting spread more widely. This isn't something to screw around with. I TRULY believe something Earth changing will occur on 12.21.2012...as the trailer says, Google it.
Anyway, please watch this trailer and then make plans to go see the movie!
There's this guy named Ken (a friend of my son) who creates all the music on his page by himself. As if that's not impressive enough, the music freakin'pwns! Seriously. Some of it is more ambient sounding and others are more heavy.
Anyway, you just GOTTA give him a listen. I rarely ask people to check bands/music out on here, but I think everyone will really enjoy his music. I know I do. I honestly listen to it daily.
Oh, one last thing...the dude's in high school. Holy shit, man. I was a total waste in high school. It's so cool that he's actually doing something with his talent. So let's support him, Mmmmkay?!
Today Opera celebrates its 15th Anniversary!!! Can you believe it? 15 years today!

On a sidenote, I noticed that Jon, himself, added me to his list this morning. I very well might not make it through the day...what with the heart palpitations and whatnot. Just in case, I want you all to know that I love you and all of my belongings can be fought over once I'm dead. Only one thing - I want to be buried with all of my Opera t-shirts and other paraphernalia...and my Mario 1up mushroom...OH...and my NES. Other than that, fight it out with my family!
Just teasin' and you know it. GOSH!
Now go wish Opera a Happy Birthday!!!
EDIT: I seriously may die for real! Opera just added me on Twitter!
Lonnie and I watched "Role Models" last night. I've gotta say...it was pretty freakin' hilarious. I really enjoyed it...as did Lonnie. The fact that Lonnie and I are both big flippin' nerds probably allowed us to enjoy it more than some non-nerdy people would. Not saying that if you're not a nerd at all, you won't enjoy it. That's not the case.
Anyway...here's what IMDB says about "Role Models":
Danny and Wheeler, well into their 30s, lack something: Danny feels stuck; he's sour and has driven away his terrific girlfriend. Wheeler chases any skirt he sees for empty sex. When they get in a fight with a tow-truck driver, they choose community service over jail and are assigned to be big brothers - Danny to Augie, a geek who loves participating in a weekend Medieval reenactment society, and Wheeler to Ronnie, a pint-size foul-mouthed kid. After a rocky start, things start to go well until both Danny and Wheeler make big mistakes. Can the two men figure out how to change enough to be role models to the boys?
That pretty well sums it up. The one kid named Augie is big-time into this whole Medieval role playing thing. It's so flippin' funny because I've known people like that before. I've even seen a big group of these people in a park in Montana doing their whole role playing thing. One part of me wanted to laugh and say, "Wow...what a bunch of dorks!" while the other part of me was saying, "That's no fair! I want to play, too!"
One last thing...there are some bewb shots in the movie as well. Bewb lovers unite! ( . Y . )
As pretty much anyone who knows me knows, I'm a big-time lover of coffee. I not only love to drink the stuff and munch on the beans; prior to getting into the Graphic Design industry, I worked in the coffee industry for over ten years. I was both a barista and a manager of a few different shops in my time. My point in this little history lesson is to say that I know my way around coffee.
That being said, I was absolutely stunned when I tasted this new coffee from Starbucks called Casi Cielo®. Actually, I don't even know how new it is...all I know is it's new to me. It's pretty expensive ($12.95/lb. whole beans), but you certainly get what you pay for in this stuff. From the moment you crack the package open, you know you aren't dealing with an average coffee. This stuff is freakin' amazing....and from Starbucks, of all people. They get props from me. It takes a lot to impress me this much...especially with coffee.
Here's an excerpt from their website:
The name means almost heaven, and while you’ve never had to go that far to experience this ineffably rich coffee, there was a time when you could only enjoy it in some of the country’s most exclusive restaurants.
You see, we originally developed this coffee to be the ultimate “fine-dining” experience, working with the chefs at Seattle’s legendary Canlis restaurant. Together, we created a remarkable coffee with a depth and versatility perfect for a variety of gourmet entrees and desserts—particularly those with savory herbs or cheeses, rich chocolate or berries. For years, we limited this coffee to just a few, choice establishments.
But the clamor for Guatemala Casi Cielo® was so relentless, and the coffee so good, that eventually we capitulated; we had to share it. So, for a short time every year, we make this culinary masterpiece available for your own special occasions at home—no reservations required.
I'm really saddened that this coffee won't be offered year round, but that's okay. It'll make me appreciate it that much more. If it weren't an absolute travesty to coffee to freeze it, I would buy a bunch up and do so. Anyone who knows anything about coffee knows that freezing it is a HUGE no-no. It completely strips the beans of the essential oils that give the coffee it's flavor. So when you freeze it, you're basically changing the entire flavor of the stuff...taking it from something that's really good to something you would get when you crack open a can of Folgers. :shudder:
Anyway, I wanted to blog about this stuff because I know I'm surrounded by so many other coffee lovers here on My.Opera. If you can find this stuff in your area, I really recommend grabbing a bag. I know it's expensive, but treat yourself! You won't be sorry.
The fine folks over at The 2008 Weblog Awards are allowing us to vote for a plethora of blogging categories. One of the categories just happens to be Best Online Community. My.Opera has a spot there, so let's all rush over there and vote our asses off, shall we?! Hurry! I have no idea when this thing ends, but the polls are open right now, so do it before they slam shut!!!
I just downloaded the coolest screensaver known to man! I love it so much...I just have to share it with you guys.
It's called Word Clock...the name says it all. That's exactly what it is.
Word Clock is a typographic screensaver for Mac OS X and Windows. It displays a fixed list of all numbers and words sufficient to express any possible date and time as a sentence. Word Clock displays time by highlighting appropriate words as each second passes.
There are two display modes; Linear and Rotary which has a nice relationship with traditional analogue clocks.
Fine typographic control is provided so you can change the typeface, leading, kerning and alignment. Position and resize the display however you like. Font size is determined automatically for the best fit.
I have Word Clock running on my machine,
and I flippin' love it!
I really love the fact that it's customizable.
Mine is black w/ pink...my favorites.
