A Bit Overkill If You Ask Me

The telephone poles in Portland gross me out.
Seriously.
Why can't they pay someone to scrape those things
down so they don't have 329487239847398743 different
layers of concert flyers, garage sale signs, and
various other crap on them?!

Can you imagine how many germs these poles have on them?!
:faint:
I guess I'm done ranting. I'm just so totally sickened
every time I see one!

You think the paper carries more germs than the poles themselves? maybe. It's just an eyesore, to me.

By noah counte, # 5. May 2008, 21:37:36

avatar
Well, yeah...it's an eyesore as well. The germ thing is just one of my compulsive nagging things that makes me want to light the entire pole on fire just to kill the germs! :insane:

 some douche bag might say it is impressionistic art

Which is one of the reasons they're a douche bag! :D

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 05:04:22

avatar
So ... the pole isn't made of paper?

It actually looks like hundreds of people shot spitballs at the thing :yuck:

By clean, # 6. May 2008, 11:21:45

They completely banned that here. Now people are using cardboard boxes and putting their sign on them out by the road. Or they stake the signs into the ground.

If the people don't pick up their trash, well their addy is clearly on it! p:

By angel292005, # 6. May 2008, 15:04:50

avatar
Actually wouldnt the paper be made of poles? Homer: Doh! We are missing the larger picture; this can help with recycling

By ripp2002, # 6. May 2008, 16:55:32

They can't really do anything like that in Portland, Sarah. It's a terrific idea, but the streets are already so narrow and there are lots of pedestrians...all of the boxes and whatnot would create too much crowding. People would totally freak out about it.

I've got no choice but to deal with the poles of germs.

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 17:02:51

avatar
All larger cities are like that. Manhatten is the worst.

By ripp2002, # 6. May 2008, 17:07:12

avatar
I'm willing to put up with the nasty-ass poles just to be in the city. :D

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 17:11:51

:eyes: there is a giant difference between bitching and whining

By ripp2002, # 6. May 2008, 17:25:24

avatar
So you're saying I need to get better at this bitching thing.

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 17:33:12

avatar
 yes, bitching is less emotional, more conceptual, and deals with more anger.

example, that fucker that stole my presentation was a freaking tool

versus, I my coke is warm and I cant afford another one.

:eyes: see?

By noah counte, # 6. May 2008, 18:04:49

avatar
Although...the guys in Cattle Decapitation are hardcore vegans. The singer/growler is a mortician as well as a singer/growler. Their songs have to do with animal's being mistreated...or at least a lot of their songs.

They're all about animal rights.

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 18:06:12

You listen to good music. People who get pissed at your music are lame.

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 18:07:07

Wendy O. Williams was a vegan, and an animal rights activist too. Who says you can't thrash and be gentle at the same time?

By noah counte, # 6. May 2008, 18:16:21

avatar
Exactly! :D

By Nerak, # 6. May 2008, 18:20:45

As in "I'm going to gently thrash you within an inch of your life!"

Or something.

By noah counte, # 7. May 2008, 02:00:18

By Nerak, # 7. May 2008, 02:27:46

When I use a chainsaw, I definately wear pants under the chaps. Yikes.

By noah counte, # 7. May 2008, 02:36:36

avatar
I'd certainly hope so. You might end up cutting the wrong wood. :yikes:

By Nerak, # 7. May 2008, 02:39:09

Let's not even joke about that.

In South Africa, You have to get a licence to post anything on a street pole. One of the conditions of that licence stipulates that you must remove it after the event etc. is over. It's also illegal to post anything on a street sign or robot (traffic light). That, however, doesn't stop people from illegally posting shit all over the show. With violent crime on the increase, police can hardly be expected to waste limited resources by arresting billet posters.

That's very interesting, Aadil. I am always pretty fascinated when I hear of different laws in different countries.
