Girl in Germany

On Sunday we went and saw The Faint play Karlsbahnhof in Heidelberg. It was all sorts of amazingness. Support came from New Zealand punksters Bang! Bang! Eche! - who even when their drum kit fell off the side of the stage, still had more energy than a toddler tanked up on E-numbers and Tizer. They're gonna be touring the uk in a few months, so if you're over that way you may wanna go and see see them before they take over the world. (Oh, and you've totally gotta check out their myspace blog entry about the show - it made me do laughing snorts. Nice.)

Although I've been a massive Faint fan for years, this was my first show of theirs. Perhaps not knowing what to expect made it better I don't know. Or it could have been the old Eddie Murphy 'Sex and Cracker' theory of um, appreciation-for-things-that-might-normally-be-just-okay-but-you-think-it's-the-fucking-bees-knees-because-of-the-build-up. Or not. What the fuck do I know? Either way, they played lots from the new album Fasiination and all the greats (well, except Your Retro Career Melted.. but y'know, you can't please everyone:-). The singer's lab coat and sungoggles plus the smooth moves of the keyboardist made my evening. That and the non-stop aural sex-fest that was this show. In short, the kids were fucking mad for it, The Faint rocked like mofos on a mission and it was all done to a hypnotic electro beat in technicolour. Or something. I'm tired.
