Vélo, Paris

Etre venue travailler avec mon petit vélo fraîchement acheté sur Ebay ! 3,8 km dans le vent frais du matin. Paris sans trop de voitures. Les sourires des autres cyclistes. 10 minutes au lieu de + ou - 1/2 heure. Ça vous ferait presqu'aimer les lundis...

Spontaneous generation, Pigeons, Paris

Some weeks ago, I read a curious remark in a novel from Edward Dee -was that in "14 Peck Slip" or "Nightbird" ?- I can not remember. NYPD Detective Joe Gregory, one of the two principal characters, asks to his partner and friend if he had ever seen a baby-pigeon ? - "You always see adult-pigeons but never baby-pigeons".
Well, I was quite puzzled and since then I tried to remember if I had ever seen one of these baby-birds. I have always lived in Paris and I am sure that I never saw one of them.

Why ? One theory could be that the pigeons appear in life as adults ? Sort of spontaneous generation of adult-pigeons? Absurd !

No. I know the truth. Today, as I was coming back from work, it happened that I had the answer. I MET a baby-pigeon... It was so ugly with a few dirty yellow feathers than I wonder if its parents are not so much ashamed than they prefer to hide it. Here is the proof! (See the pict below)

Too bad I did not have my digital camera, so I had to take this poor picture with my bad bad cell-phone's camera (Motorola V220 for not to say)

Modern Art Expo (06.11.06, Grand Palais, Paris)

Sunday : visit to a modern art exhibition "La Force de l'Art" to the "Grand Palais". Disappointment...Not only the paintings and installations are not very interesting but in addition, there is no air conditioning! Outside, the temperature yet rises above 27°C, I let you imagine what we can feel inside under the glass ceiling.

Nevertheless, I took some photos... here they are.

On the same theme, I'd like recommend this very creative and exciting expo I visited last year. This year it'll happen from September 23 to October 15 in Montrouge (near Paris) :
THE EUROPEAN EXHIBITION FOR YOUNG CREATORS

"The purpose of the European Exhibition for young creators is to show the new trends in contemporary art in all its spheres of expression (painting, sculpture, installations, work on paper, photo and video and all others forms of new expression) on a Europen scale and to provide a platform or stage, representative and unique in both content and scope. The European Exhibition for young Creators is an exhibition of discovery, the aim of which is to make known in each of the participant’s country, the work of a new generation of artists, whose reputation has not yet been acquired and to enhance their contribution to contemporary creation before a large an audience as possible. The European caracter of the exhibition is, in fact, a confrontation and a comparison, taking into account both the heritage of European culture coming from a past rich in shared influences and the necessity to affirm our capacity to develop these exhanges on a contemporary scale. The project depends on the commitment shared by all the European towns to undertake the representation of their country of origin. The participating towns will engage an artistic commissioner of national repute to carry out a selection in his country of ten artists, each one presenting a work. The total number of the works selected makes the European Exhibition of Young Creators. The travelling exhibition is presented each year in each one of the partner towns and in cultural centers where the works can be displayed to advantage. The exhibition take place on a fixed date so as to be easily recognised and understood as a unique event in the cultural scene of each country."
