Battlestar Galactica 4.0

- Spoiler free post -

I believe it was Aristotle who first defined the fundamental principles of how the story in every play should be structured. It doesn't matter if the story is set up on stage or recorded on film; basics of storytelling are always the same; the core of the story is in the relations between the main characters (the protagonist and the rest). That is what really makes the drama, not the spinning cars or flying bullets. It is not that I'm against those things, it is just that they have to be there in function of the whole story, with a good reason.
Many of today's filmmakers often forget about that; they try to impress us with flasy effects and spectacular crashes or explosions and it is normal that we, as spectators, feel empty after such play or movie.
But what really bothers me is that the genre of Sci-Fi is associated exactly by those effects, which is the farthest as it could be from the truth. Sci-fi is not about spaceships and rockets! The real sci-fi is just as any other good drama about human relations, but what separates it from "normal drama" is the environment (future perhaps) which makes a good ground for the most extreeme moral questions to arise. There are moral dilemas that cannot be pursued in world as we know it, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
How would you explain your computer you don't need it anymore if the computer had consciousness? How would you feel about shutting it down? What if computer was better than you?

And: what if a conscious "computers" developed themselves to the extent at which they can form a new and much better society, and they decide it is time to terminate flawed humans, which make so many wrong things. I mean; humans make eachother suffer and die every day! Does the somehow immoral humanity deserve to survive, if there is a new generation of life in place?

Battlestar Galactica is a Sci-fi TV show that revolves around those very questions. I believe it is the best television show ever done and it has taken our understanding of sci-fi and television on a completly new level. Everything from writing to acting is just incredible. I would like to tell you more, but I'm still catching my breath after seing the first episode of the final (fourth) season.
