Auction, xasthur

Soon after the Mayhem auctions, someone offered a personal handwritten letter from Malefic for
sale on eBay...
This is a letter I recieved from Malefic some years ago when Xasthur were beginning to make waves in the underground. I post this item to anywhere, international buyers welcome, payment by paypal only. This will one day been seen as a piece of USBM history, an interesting read from Malefic indeed. includes two pages and a postdated envelope, also has Malefic's autograph. This auction also contains The first Xasthur album "A gate through Bloodstained Mirrors"
It's a mad world.

Black Metal, Sunn, Vinyl, Reissue
...

Lots of little Striborg news... First off,
Displeased are reissuing
Nocturnal Emissions / Nyctophobia and
Spiritual Catharsis today. Both CDs were originally released in limitied editions on Sin Nanna's own label Finsternis, and have been repackaged. I haven't seen the result with my own eyes yet, but should be worth getting.

Further, the Xasthur/Striborg split 7" is finally available for preorder (when they will actually be delivered is not made clear) from
Autopsy Kitchen. As if the split single wasn't enough, you can even get a split T shirt with the purchase...
It's been a long time coming and finally Australia's most understated black metal project collaborates with the United States ever prolific Xasthur on an agonizing split of melancholy and anti-jovial piece of wax. This limited vinyl features 1 recording from each band each of which will be exclusive to this release. Limited to 1,000 copies of which 800 will be pressed on clear vinyl and 200 on grey vinyl. The grey vinyl version will be available through AKR mailorder only and sold with an exclusive grey T shirt made exclusively for this release. This is a pre-order and your copy will be shipped as soon as they are back from press. No exact date known, sorry. As with all of our vinyl releases at Autopsy Kitchen = NO RE-PRESS EVER!
The planned Striborg "Trepidation" Double LP on
Black Hate has been cancelled. According to Black Hate, Sin Nanna gave the rights to someone else.
Finally, I find myself on the wrong side of the planet, as Sin Nanna is appearing live with Sunn, Atilla and Oren Ambarchi in Australia on the 8th of May. See the poster at the top, or read more at the
Southern Lord blog.

Blog, Black Metal, xasthur

Malefic/Xasthur is now running an official blog over at
xasthurnews.blogspot.com, apparently started "To clear some things up". The first update contains a couple of paragraphs about Malefic's views on Myspace, as well as a little update on the upcoming album "Defective Epitaph".
New cd (Defective Epitaph) will be completed by Jan '07 and come out later in the year, this album has real drums and real cello on most tracks, so all assuming aside, expect something different and....dark.
The official Xasthur
web site has also been updated, for the first time in a couple of years, with this piece of news.

xasthur, Black Metal, New Release, Battle Kommand
...

There is a Xasthur EP planned on Drakkar. I got the following by email from S. at
Drakkar:
Well, everything really depends on Xasthur, an Ep was planned and is still planned, but so far he seems to be hesitating on what material to send us. So for the time being, there isn't much info, but will be posted on our website in due time. We will also be releasing shortly a new Tshirt as Drakkar Productions is the official Xasthur merchandise dealer.
Supposedly the two titles "Doomed by Howling Winds / Sermon in the Name of Death" and "A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors" are to be reissued on
Battle Kommand, but I have not gotten any reply from them. Also, there are some rumours that the Xasthur half of the Xasthur/Acid Enema split is to be reissued on Battle Kommand.
Some undeliberately funny stuff... Hydrahead have got this to say on
their blog today (seems to be removed now, however):
just a heads up that there are a number of Xasthur myspace profiles out there and that none of these are affiliated with Xasthur or Hydrahead. they are imposters and should be treated as such.
How do you treat an impostor? Deface them? Hang them?

xasthur, Black Metal, New Release, Moribund Cult

"Xasthur" is the title of the new Xasthur EP on
Moribund Cult. The EP is
now available, after the original August 15th release was postponed. Also, this will be the last Xasthur release on Moribund Cult, as there seems to have been bad blood between the two parties lately.
Legendary one-man black metal cult XASTHUR will release his final recording for the CULT. Simply entitled "Xasthur," this MCD will feature mainman Malefic's characteristically ruinous ruminations. The label would like to wish XASTHUR all the best in its future, soul-terrorizing endeavors!
Update: There is a
live video of Malefic/Xasthur performing the Twilight song "Beyond Light (Beautiful And Malignant)" together with Nachtmystium over at
the Scourge. Found this clip via
Hydraheadlines, by the way.

Black Metal, xasthur, Quotes

Let's follow up yesterday's Leviathan quotes with few good ones from Xasthur's covers:
Fuck off and die to the usual - Malefic 2003
Fuck off list:
Black Metal "elitist" kids who have not been able to grasp or whow the real essence of intolerance, nihilism and hatred in their REAL lives away from the internet, yet these "individuals" claim to be some part of some 'elite' black metal movement that has not left any scar on humanity, these are the same people who use black metal as their crutch! I would expect some dead bodies lying at their feet by now based on how fast they run their "evil" mouths! Return to the 'subculture' scene that rejected you or salvage some dignity and shut the fuck up. Your need for human love and acceptance by your peers (and others) sickens me! Your epitaph will be a bar code. You know who you are, yet you've forgotten you're really nothing. I know who you are. These teenage 'scene veterans' (a contradiction) need their fucking faces smashed in to teach them the meaning of respect and honor. With all that said, I just might hate you as much as I hate those normal human beings in the light world. I never thought it would come to this. You have once or twice judged me, now it's my turn. - Malefic 2004
Fuck off and curses to those who tried getting in my way, you know who you are, it hasn't worked and you're still a loser - Malefic 2006

Twilight, xasthur, Leviathan, Nachtmystium
...

Those of us who eagerly anticipate the follow-up to last year's
Twilight debut album will have to be patient for yet a while, it seems. I sent Blake aka Azentrius an email to get some news, and he told me that the members are all very busy with their respective bands right now; Leviathan is finishing his new album, and there will be a split between Leviathan and Nachtmystium out on Southern Lord later this year. Apparently the Nachtmystium side will be recorded at Rancho de la Luna studios (Queens of the Stone Age), and during the same session Nachtmystium will record a 7" of Pink Floyd covers entitled "Set The Controls for the Black Heart of the Sun". And Xasthur's new album is right around the corner.
So for Twilight, a couple of songs were more or less finished via mail by Wrest and Blake some months ago, but that's all for now.
Apropos Nachtmystium,
Pitchfork Media dedicated the first installment of their almost-monthly column
"Show No Mercy" to them back in June. Read it for a rundown on Nachtmystium happenings, the author Brandon Stosuy's response to
Lamentations of the Flame Princess' accusations of him being a hipster, and a definition of "Nigel Hipster". It seems it's all about being holier than thou and stating your credentials these days. As always.

Black Metal, xasthur, Striborg, Autopsy Kitchen
Autopsy Kitchen is set to release what could be an interesting split single between Xasthur and Striborg. For once, the actual combination of artists on a split seems to fit a purpose. Summer is nearing it's end, so I optimistically suppose it can't be far off:
It's been a long time coming and finally Australia's most understated black metal project collaborates with the United States ever prolific Xasthur on an agonizing split of melancholy and anti-jovial piece of wax. Material has already been recorded and this split will see the dark of night sometime this Summer.
As well, the Striborg vinyl debut 2xLP version of "Embittered Darkness/Isle Des Mortes" is out on
Southern Lord:
We are extremely honored to be the very first label to release Tasmanian Rain Forest Black Metal Mystic: Striborg on vinyl! The vinyl version of this killer album is on clear vinyl and comes in a thick cardboard jacket/gatefold sleeve. This is limited to a one-time pressing of 1,000 copies! With the clear vinyl version limited to (400) units.

xasthur, Black Metal, New Release

The next Xasthur full length is slated for a September 12th 2006 release through
Hydrahead in cooperation with
Battle Kommand.
Tracklist:
1) Disharmonic Convergence
2) Prison of Mirrors
3) Beauty is Only Razor Deep
4) Trauma Will Always Linger
5) Pyramid of Skulls
6) Arcane and Misanthropic Projection
7) Victim of Your Dreams
8) Through a Trance of Despondency
9) Loss and Inner Distortion
10) Subliminal Genocide
11) Malice Hidden in Surrealism
Hydrahead is Xasthur's new label after
falling out with
Southern Lord. Some eyebrows have been raised over Xasthur's choice to join forces with a well established label that up until recently has not been involved with any Black Metal artist. Here follows the rather long press release for the album:
As one of the most innovative black metal practitioners in the isolationist sub-underground, Xasthur has crafted some of the most mesmerizing and significant music of the last decade, regardless of genre.
Subliminal Genocide wallows in its creator’s well nourished acrimony and terminal disgust, fomenting a hellish vortex of shrill riffery, cavernous howls and psychedelic stormblasts that bears down on the psyche with primordial distress.
With tremendous respect and admiration, Hydra Head Industries is proud to release the work of one of the underground black metal scene’s most creative minds: Xasthur. For this release, we are working in association with Battle Kommand Records. The Illinois-based label has released an impressive stable of quality underground releases, including a Xasthur/Leviathan split.
Though it began in 1995 and featured other members until 1999, Xasthur’s entire recorded cannon (5 full lengths, 5 split albums, and an appearance on sunnO))'s "Black One") is solely the work of one tremendously prolific artist: Malefic. His sonic palette is HUGE.
The U.S. black metal scene is regarded by those in-the-know as tremendously progressive. Xasthur (along with Leviathan, Krieg, and Nachtmystium) is an American artist whose forays into lo-fi atmospherics, unique instrument and vocal textures, as well as exploratory song structures are heralded.
Subliminal Genocide adheres to the sonic and lyrics principles of malevolence contained in Xasthur’s past work, but further develops the use space and atmosphere. Though the significance and appeal of underground black metal remains largely experienced only by the few who dwell in dark corners, we hope this tremendous Xasthur record reaches the ears of all those who are even slightly fond of extreme art.
Also ready for release is an as of yet untitled new Xasthur mini album on
Moribund Cult. Judging by Malefic's comments on Moribund Cult in the infamous Southern Lord email, this mini album is released to fulfill contractual obligations to Moribund Cult. A note from the Cult:
Legendary one-man black metal cult XASTHUR will release his final recording for the CULT on August 15th. Simply entitled "Xasthur," this MCD will feature mainman Malefics characteristically ruinous ruminations. The label would like to wish XASTHUR all the best in its future, soul-terrorizing endeavors!

Black Metal, Hype, xasthur

Here follows Malefic's May 19th email, which I suppose effectively ended Xasthur's work with Southern Lord/Sunn, to label boss Greg Anderson:
From: Xasthur
Sent: Friday, May 19, 2006 12:08 PM
Subject: SHALOM (Southern Fraud)
First of all,
EXHIBIT A):
This "Darkness Hath No Boundaries" comp CD is false
1). Southern Lord no longer has Xasthur to offer (or exploit)
2). It's not an exclusive track
3). Perhaps the most important, this track was NOT approved by the band when it was 'remastered' horribly!
4). Once again, done behind bands back in order to continue trying to make a buck off of, just about as low as Moribund
SOUTHERNLORD - DARKNESS HATH NO BOUNDARIES/Label Compilation CD

1). Vocalist offered nothing
2). again, done behind band's back
3). again, SL trying to cash in off a band that had already parted ways with them.
4). Once again, this label has absolutely NO respect for their artists.
EXHIBIT C):
Band (Xasthur) given 10 cd's and 5 LP's of Black One after this fraudulent label uses bands contributions (to "jam" with) to help sell over 20,000 copies.
Black metal is not a charity to help make some Christian's marriage wonderful (Greg Anderson)
Spread this like a fucking plague
